I bought my most recent guitar thinking the nut was Bone colored black, but Sweetwater had a few specs wrong and it's actually synthetic/bronze-powder blend similar to what is used on core models. Well it's my first tremolo guitar and I can trem and bend like crazy and it stays in tune great. Surprised at that, but happy.

I've been using Rene Martinez Graphit All...

He was SRV's tech; correct?

He was, yeah. I had no idea that his Graphit All product was not necessarily all that popular until I noticed it was excluded here. (But I do tend to see it mentioned by very experienced, pro-level techs... which he was, of course.)

None of that stuff can save you if your nut isn't cut properly.
100%. Not a replacement for a well cut nut but I guess René Martinez knows how to perfectly cut a nut being A level guitar tech, right ? He still came out with a lube (which I didn't know about before this thread I have to say).
I guess it's another "if you like it use it" kind of thing, I do like it and experienced some benefit.

Just to maybe explain why I didn't mention it, I never even heard of Graphit All before. But I am in Europe and I don't see it available anywhere around here, just like so many things guitar related alas.

I've never heard of half of those mentioned.

Apparently, Graphit All has been available for 20 years...
Ceramic impregnated, which is different from the Teflon and graphite impregnated lubes...I guess.

Number 2 pencil. hold it at a sharp angle when applying to nut (strings or no strings) and it is self sharpening. I think I have a drawer with dozens - thus a lifetime supply and free. good luck L6

50% graphite and 50% clay is where it's at...

I squirt a little not sauce on those slits every now and again, but I have never used anything else so can't really say if something else is better. I know my nut sauce seems to be a very deep well as I have had the same lube tube for 6 years I think. Then again, I only change my strings maybe twice a year, so that is certainly a factor in the longevity of my nut sauce reservoir ;~))

I started using graphite from StewMac’s. Basically, it’s pencil lead only softer. Seems to do the job, too soon to tell.

I’ve been using Frog Lube Paste for many years now. A 4 oz container for $13 on Amazon or your local sporting goods store is a lifetime supply for guitar uses. Toothpicks are a great disposable applicator:

“FROGLUBE® is a cutting edge bio-based lubricant made from “USDA Certified Food-Grade”. All ingredients are produced in the USA using a proprietary formula. It is a non-toxic substance that dissolves carbon on contact. It has a heavy specific gravity, which enables it to ‘season’ the metal by absorption deep into the pores. Using FROGLUBE® results in a durable dry slick wax-like surface that reduces friction, eliminates fouling, and destroys rust. FROGLUBE® is safe for plastic, urethane, nylon, and wood. FROGLUBE® will give your weapon many extended years of service.

FROGLUBE® will not harm the environment. It can be disposed of without the need for prohibitive HAZMAT controls. Users will be protected from the affects of working in and around toxic chemicals.

FROGLUBE® IS A BIO-BASED LUBRICANT AND PROTECTANT

  • CONTAINS NO PETROLEUM OR WATER
  • NON-HAZARDOUS IN EVERY WAY
  • PLEASANT MINT SMELL”

Not gonna lie, I have quite a large amount of that stuff and I have thought about using it for my guitars just last week.
I have the paste and the more liquid form. Sure worth a try as I really have a lifetime supply if that fits the bill. I stopped my competitive shooting career and reinvested the money from the guns into my first PRS a few years back now, lol !

Is that stuff people got all bent about, when it was discovered it was just vegetable oil?
