So I am running low on Nut Sauce (cue funny comments here) and before I commit to buy a new supply that will last me the next few years I am wondering what you guys use. I use lube on every string contact point, nut, saddles and string tree when present (i.e. on my T type).
My guitars have bone or standard PRS synthetic nuts, I have used lube on both with appreciable results.
I used only Big Bends Nut Sauce for the last few years but as much as I like it, it seems a bit outrageously priced for what it is, that is why I am looking for alternatives if any. I also have StewMac guitar grease which I tried but I find it odd to apply without making a black mess.

Oh and I have listed the lubes I am aware of, please feel free to tell if you use something else.

Thanks :)

Well my brother, who has played tremolo guitars longer, has some Nut Sauce. I have not yet used any, but my first tremolo guitar is working out nicely with no tuning issues or anything.

So my vote thus far is for Nut Sauce because there's already some here in this house and it has the funniest name. 😆

I don't use lube on my prs guitars.

When I put fresh strings on i get it tuned close then work that trem up and down over and over and over maximum both directions. Several times, stretching strings along the way.

Those synthetic nuts are supposed to be self lubricating so working it like i do accomplishes that.

Unless there is a setup issue this is normally all I need and I do use trem when playing live.

My 2 cents.

I squirt a little not sauce on those slits every now and again, but I have never used anything else so can't really say if something else is better. I know my nut sauce seems to be a very deep well as I have had the same lube tube for 6 years I think. Then again, I only change my strings maybe twice a year, so that is certainly a factor in the longevity of my nut sauce reservoir ;~))

I've been using Rene Martinez Graphit All for a long time. Just a little dab'll do ya... so I really don't need to buy it all that much. I honestly have assumed that it's the same as Big Bends Nut Sauce (but is it really?) so I'd probably buy that if I could no longer find the Rene Martinez stuff.

The Black synthetic PRS nut on the core guitars 100% do not need lube and I believe lube can make tuning worse in many cases
Agreed but... having tried on say my Special 22 Ltd with and without lube, it's way better at getting back to pitch with than without.
And many Core don't have those synthetic nuts nowadays, my 594 for example. US Silver Sky same thing, bone nut and with these, lubing help quite a bit in my experience. Not to say that a perfectly cut nut is superior but lubing is an easy way to DIY as I wouldn't venture into cutting my own nut slots (sounds weird, right ? 😂).

Nut sauce, graphite, pencil, and nothing. It all depends over the years but not one of my core nuts have ever needed anything.
