What happened to the Custom 22?

If you go to the PRS web site under Core models the Custom 22 is not there. https://prsguitars.com/products/core

When did they stop making the Custom 22? Is PRS saying if you want a 22, you will then go for a McCarty guitar and if you want a 24, you will go for a Core 24?

Yeah, the Custom 22 comes and goes from time to time. There are lots of things in the catalog right now that "hover around" it, so to speak - DGT, McCarty, SSH, Studio, Paul's. That might be why they're not offering it at the moment. I think Jack Gretz had some McCarty Trem models a while back, might still have some, if you're wanting a straight up 2 humbucker, 22 fret with a trem.

I would assume it has to do with sales. I always thought the Custom 22 and 24 both sold well, but what do I know. PRS started it all with the Custom 24. If you want a 22, get the McCarty model as with the different pickup position will change the sound of the guitar to be slightly warmer. Want a little less punch and closer to the vintage guitars, get a McCarty 594

I think they decided to replace the custom 22 with the SSH after the initial limited run did so well. It’s basically a more versatile custom 22 and does a better job of setting itself apart from the custom 24.
