What did you learn on your guitar today?

And I did not even use YouTube to learn how to play it
I am sitting at Safeway this morning waiting for them to open up and I hear Shot Down In Flames by AC/DC.
Heard it a million times before, but as I was listening to it I thought to myself there are only like four chords to the whole song so it should be relatively easy to play.
Also thought that Let Me Put My Love Into You should be pretty easy too, so after getting home, putting the groceries away, and breakfast, I picked up my SE Tremonti Custom and went right to it, and I even was in the right key, key of A.

Both songs start out with an A chord, and a Judas Priest song Hot Rockin which I figured out last week is in the key of A also.
So lets hear it, what did you learn on your guitar today?

Played all three later today with the 408 amped up, and it sounded pretty good.
Cannot wait to try the Zach Myers playing them once it lands.

I am use to the old version with Bon Scott signing, but this newer one from 2009 with Brian Johnson is of better fidelity quality.

The last song I learned was Heartbreaker by Pat Benotaur. That was back in December for a show we were playing where a woman from another band on the bill was going to join us to do lead vocals.

Since then though I recorded an album of original tunes, and wrote another song, plus about two dozen riffs for our band to jam on. That's pretty much my focus.

These were pretty simple but I learned Jeremy, sister by the nixons, and in the air tonight (the nonpoint version). The band I'm in has finally decided to play some covers. I'm pretty excited about it.

"Black Rose" by Thin Lizzy - Nice melodic lines. The fast pull off lick is a handful......I use software to slow down the licks and it sure makes life easier! Gary Moore is one of my faves from the 80's.

I was toying around with the sweep arpeggio sequence that John 5 showed TG in his guest lesson. I liked that the whole sweep pattern can be moved around the neck, but I had no idea which progression to play to. Then my dad was telling me that he loves classical tunes, especially the Canon in D. So I played the sweep pattern in line with the Canon chord progression and voila! Instant Canon Shred in D! That's pretty fun and awesome for me. :laugh:

Lately I have been working on EVH's Beat It solo. About 90% there. I particularly love Jennifer Batten's version of it.

Starts around 4:30, she does her own improvised solo then does Eddie's version. This is a more candid recording with some kind of School of Rock session, but she totally rips it to pieces. I could watch it over and over.

That's the one, the string-skipping arpeggio. It's kind of a sweep with a skipped string, if you saw John doing it. So I played around with the shape, and moved the major 3rd down to minor 3rd and I got the minor arpeggio covered. Then I just played it along the whole neck.

These are the fret numbers in sequence to give you an idea of it.

D - A - Bm - Fm - G - D - A - A
10 - 5 - 7 - 14 - 15 - 10 - 5 - (12)

For the 2nd bar of A at the end of the progression, I played a different sweep pattern, the open C major shaped one as taught by Rob Chappers in his Diatonic Sweep Dragon vid, just to keep things interesting. :laugh: Hope you have fun playing around with these!

Man, I hadn't learned a thing for months. Barely been playing. Now I have a duo acoustic gig coming up next week, so last night I learned a new original and "You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly" by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Not as flash as what some of you guys have been working on I know, but it's such a great classic country tune.

Going to learn "Leather and Lace", "Angel from Montgomery" and "Yer So Bad" here in the next couple days.

Nice. My six-year-old is crazy about it, too. Idina Menzel is incredible. Have you seen the classroom instrument version from Fallon?
