I'm not to well versed in the differences between old birds, new birds, and/or anything in between. What shape/style would these be considered, and are they what a typical 2010 Custom 24 would have?

I haven't paid much attention to US-made CU24's newer than 1990 (so I could be wrong) but I thought 2010 CU24's had 25th anniversary birds.

Is that an SE or core instrument. Those look like SE birds to me - in which case, it's correct.

It's a core, but it's from a special run with some non-standard features. My questions about the birds were to determine if they were yet another non-standard element.

Haha, it's not mine yet. If I seem cagey about the details, it's because I'm trying to figure out what all is going on with its features before I buy the thing!

Post some pics already.

Is that a Pau Ferro fretboard?

I would've guessed Brazilian.

Yeah, they look like "old school" birds in mother of pearl. Wasn't mother of pearl only the norm for a year or two in the early 90's (until the 594, now)?

Now that my curiosity is piqued, could it be one of the Experience guitars? Small eagle on headstock?

Well, I just bit the bullet, bought and paid, so I'll let the cat out of the bag.

The listing calls it a "Custom 24 with 10 top in amber orange" but I did some digging, sent some messages back and forth to get some headstock and hang tag photos, and what it is is a Custom 24 Guttar Center 46th Anniversary, one of 46, which isn't quite as special as it sounds because A) they did a special run every year for a while and B) Guitar Center's 46th anniversary isn't exactly a huge deal.

It seems to differ from the regular Custom 24 in the following ways:

- Artist grade top with Artist finish, Solana Burst
- Wood Library African mahogany body, fiddleback mahogany neck, and the fretboard is an Asian rosewood called dalbergia lanceolaria
- Hybrid hardware
- McCarty switching
- MOP old birds, apparently
- Nitro finish

So I'm pretty reasonably excited right now. The color is really speaking to me, and the features are an interesting blend.

Crazy spec. See what that config would cost you from Private Stock and you'll feel like a thief. Congrats!
