What Are Your Favorite Amps To Play?

I played through the Fillmore today. I managed to wrangle a guitar down the stairs.

I figured, to hell with it. My job description is not 'lab rat'.

It's 'studio rat'. 😎

"What's the distinction? You're just a bag of bones, blood, meat and bad smells, like everyone else, and you reach the same end we all do. No one cares about your big deal music work."

"Oh, music isn't my job in the studio. My job is studio furniture mover."

"I'm $%#^* Rules, and I approve this message."

On a serious note, ball park settings for this would be...?

Yes, I was just curious about how you ran the amp. I run a variety of settings as well and some of yours are very similar to the ranges I work with often. Main difference I see from my normal is I rarely run the depth up that high, but that’s because it’s usually plugged into my Zbest. The Zbest is on its side, on the floor. That combination can make it get bassy quick if you don’t watch the depth control. With the PRS 2x12 pine cab, which sets on top of that one, running the depth that high is much more normal. The Zbest, especially on its side, will out-thump a lot of 4x’s.

Other difference… I almost never go past noon on the gain. Every once in a while, I go to 1:00 and maybe once a year, to 2:00, but usually not for long and back to 11:00 or so it goes.

And, for quite a while now, I’ve been Fane-curious.

My favorite amps are unfortunately not made anymore. David Allen made modified Fender style amps under the Allen amps name.

I love his Sweet Spot(beefed-up 18watt, 12” Princeton Reverb)

Accomplice Jr(Deluxe reverb with extras)

Chihuahua(Single ended 6/10watt, with reverb).

I know he sold the company, but I’m not sure how the new amps are. Haven’t heard from anyone who’s bought a new one recently.

A Boost Or No Boost Changes Things As Does Using One Boost To The Next Boost As You Know. Being Able to Open Up The Master Helps With Things As Well. Also, You Can't Cannibal Corpse With The Gain Below Noon. I Have Run The Depth And Presence Higher Along With The EQ Controls Higher And Got Nice Tones. I Find It A Challenge To Make The Archon Sound Bad But I Do My Best. 🤣

Edit: The Fanes Speakers Are Cool. I Really Like Them And Have Them In Both Front And Rear Loaded 4X12's. The Cabinet I Used Today Was Rear Loaded.

Joking aside, it is hard to make it sound bad. The range of the controls is not like some older Marshalls, where they really don’t do a lot. These DO, but the range is ALL musical.

I hear so much that they have their own voice, but it seems impossible to get a real feel for what the difference is.
