Yeah, I wanted to keep it simple and not allow people to pick every category. I still believe blues and classic rock win in both threads. We’ll see.

I'm mostly doing progressive/symphonic hard rock. I find straight guitar-oriented music to be dull for me these days. Now, I start on the keys, build my progressions and add the rhythm section before I even touch the guitar.

I voted blues/classic rock because I use a lot of 3 and 4 chord progressions. But, in the writing process I find I go to a lot of 13th, augmented, and diminished voicings.

I tried doing covers when I got here in TN. It was tough!! I was up front with the guys, telling them I'd never done much with covers unless it was my original band adapting one. The experiment was real, and not for me. I have a lot of respect for cover guys - it's not easy copping someone else's style/vibe and recreating it well enough to entertain people.

Yup!
At 52, they’re always going to be metal to me.
Now, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the doors, etc., THAT’s classic rock to ME. Probably if you’re in your 60’s or older, not so much.

Classic rock is classic rock. I’m in my 20s and wouldn’t categorise Maiden or Judas Priest as anything other than metal

I dig classic rock to 80’s ‘metal’ and beyond. My favorite thing is to play a song and harden it, my favorite tone is much higher gain and more saturated than most older stuff. Everything is better with some palm muted chugging on it.
