When I was a young and skinny pup my guitar hung just right........now I cannot decide to hang it over my not so slight anymore belly or off to the side, and neither feels totally 'right'.

Has your posture and feel changed over the years, and how did you compensate.

Yeah, I'm doing the whole "to the side" thing as well. The only way I know how to fix it is to "put the fork down"..... and GO SKATE!

My most difficult adjustment is that as the waistline grows, the controls become harder to see.

A mirror sticking out from the trem arm aimed so I could see the guitar knobs (had to make sure we understand we're talking about the knobs on the guitar here) would be a worthy attachment. LOL!

I decided before the weekend to sling my guitar a little higher than usual, I've found I play better when I'm sitting than when I'm standing, so I tried to mimic that height.

I've been going the other way than usual with my weight lately, so I found the guitar sat uncomfortably on my hipbone. I didn't quite work out how to get around that one and just put up with it.

No problem, just purchase the Guitar Condom. Here's a blurb from their site:

"Soft memory-foam padded material wraps the back of the guitar to prevent scratches and protect your body from discomfort, and the inner surfaces will not harm your delicate finish.

We have the "Hansomatic" option to shield certain more delicate forearms (;)) from the sharp and dangerous edges of the guitar top. It's a padded leather flap that covers the edge of the top, trimmed in oh so soft baby bunny fur.

For increased luxury, the entire guitar condom is available in an Artist model, in paisley cloth or paisley leather, of course at a suitable upcharge. The paisley option is hugely popular with PRS players.

And for those players worried about contact with their precious nitro finishes on their PS models, there is an optional Private Reserve model that is trimmed in natural mink on the inside."

I've heard they have guitar cases as well, but the pictures aren't up on the site yet. I'm very curious since I've heard about their actual poodle linings. From poodle hides.

That sounds like a great idea Les, the downside of the uniform I wear in the summer is the exposed belt buckle. I'm always having to pull it to the side or something to avoid buckle rash. The upside of course is we look like the bar scene out of "Top Gun".

Have you got a link? Can I get them on eBay?

Poodle hides huh? Frank Zappa would be a happy man!!!

Is it just me, or have guitar builders been gradually reducing the size of the tummy cut over the last 10 years??

If I had a guitar with a custom belly cut, it would look like a Steinberger.

Funny you mentioned this thread - I was wondering this very same thing not so long ago. I really dislike the sharp edge of the top of my PRS guitars where my forearm touches it. I wondered by PRS didn't make it less sharp and more comfortable. Then it occurred to me - and I think I was even discussing this with Mark. Paul is skinny. It probably doesn't hang around his neck and against his body the same way at all.

It was a fun day in PRS Guitars forumland.

:goodnight:

You could switch to the Jimmy Page style and hang the guitar below waiste level. This would also foster plaing without looking at the board.
I kid of course. I am currently fighting the non-pregnant belly bump so I empathize. For me, I figure it is better to eliminate the cause of the problem rather than adjust to the problem. Maybe a waiste reduction support group thread is in order?

Good thread idea.........we all submit before pictures posted along with a pic of the scale.....and then we weigh in at Experience? I would be down and we could have a 'prize' for the one who loses the highest percentage of body weight by Experience.....anyone else down for a challenge?

I need to be held accountable, so yes.

Funny you should say that! I always wear a wristband when I practice or gig. Rubs me wrong too..But my gut is minimal, I think it may be playing style that causes the rub??
