Weight difference between PRS vintage style tuners and Phase 3 Locking tuners

Hi all, thought I'd enlist the brains trust for help.

I'm trying to determine the weight difference between the PRS vintage style non-locking tuners with stock plastic buttons (that come on the 2020 McCarty 594) and Phase 3 Locking tuners with metal buttons. Does anyone happen to have a full set of each handy they may please be able to weigh for me?

I saw a post previously in the 2020 McCarty 594 love thread where someone posted the weight difference between just the tuners as being about half an ounce, but this didn't include the buttons. Im curious to know the weight difference between the tuners and buttons, as if I put my G7th capo on the headstock of my 594, my dead note seems to shift off the neck (I can't find one anywhere with it on). The G7th performance 3 apparently weighs 2.2oz (63g), so I'm hoping to find an elegant way to be able to add 2.2oz is mass to my headstock, as this will solve my problem in an elegant way and make me super happy.

I wonder if 1.5 ounces would be enough, or if I'd need to get creative

Answered my own question last night about whether I'd notice it with the stuff I play - was playing Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore and it falls right on one of the notes you need to sustain Capo on the headstock, however, and not an issue anywhere that I could find.

Was the 1.5 ounce differences when compared with the metal buttons? In your original post about it your image shows the Phase 3's with your bone buttons on and the weight difference between both sets with buttons was 0.5 ounces. So I'm curious how much extra the metal buttons weigh compared with the bone ones you put on?

Yeah, the metal buttons made it 1.5 oz. The bone buttons are really lite weight.

Perfect, thank a lot for the info. What's the technique for getting the standard buttons off, since there doesn't seem to be a screw holding them on. Take them off the guitar, lever them off with a claw hammer or something?

You’re welcome. If you’re talking about the vintage tuner knobs, you can’t. They’re press fitted to the shaft. You’d need to change the entire tuner.
