Which are the Evander Holyfields amongst your guitars? The ones that punch above their weight and break through the ceiling into the next higher class!

I have two to nominate. First up, my 1957/2008 limited Mccarty. The inherent tone on this thing is unbelievable, and so very different from all my other PRS guitars. I can only attribute it that batch of wood, since everything else such as body shape, bridge, scale length etc is standard stuff. It’s a core PRS (albeit a limited run) that I can say has crossed over into private stock territory!

Phew, just looking at its photos makes me hot.

Next up, a PS that has crossed over into uh....unicorn wearing a holy grail round it’s neck class. This is a Paul’s Guitar that used to be Paul’s guitar. Again, the tone is just crazy good. Don’t look too shabby either!

Nice!

I’ve never actually thought about the topic. Hmmm. I’ll have to get back to you.

I personally have no green and/or blue guitars. Nor black and blue guitars. Nor purple guitars. That's all I can indicate at this time.

Two stand out to me (ignoring a certain killer whale):

South American Mahogany, Pernambuco neck, ebony board, 57/08s and a piezo :)

Magical resonance with this combination of woods that comes through clean or dirty through the amp.

Second is woody tone, my first full Braz neck. You may have seen this before as well :)
Slab Koa body, full Braz neck, 53/10s. Split sounds are killer as well.

Kind of like those times you felt PRS gave you a huge discount....;)

Lately I’ve been noticing the quality and level of adornment going up and up on SE’s and wood library guitars. The lines are getting blurred!

Oh for your two regal guitars, they just chipped off a little from their horns while they were asleep. They barely felt a tingle.

You know, I nearly bought the pernie P22 from Guitar Rez! Go ahead, thank me for not! :p

I'm going to assume this thread is about PRS guitars?

I have a couple of "non PRS" (is that a brand?) guitars
that "punch" way above their price point but as far as
my PRS guitars go, my little white S2 Mira semi-hollow
is the equal, both sonically and in feel, to guitars I own
that I paid several times as much for.
I would be fine with bringing it to any job I have played
in the 56 years I have been playing jobs.

(I see no need to post a picture.
You all know what a white S2 Mira semi-hollow looks like.)

Hey you know where I’m gonna go with this, this guitar plays/sounds/looks way above whatever JB and Sergio laid down for it.

The most important thing is the kindness that was bestowed on me by me ever having this.

Every time I play this beauty, she and the dudes who made this happen rock my world!

Thanks again guys.

Probably the best one of them all!

You’ll have to prise it from my cold hands!

OK, yes it would look even sexier with amber lampshades, locking tuners and a Mann bridge, but that’s not what she’s about.

I still can’t get over how lively she is acoustically! Even my other guitarist made the same observation.

You know, that’s really the most important thing. How an electric guitar sounds acoustically is how it will sound electrically. That includes not only resonance but the actual tone itself. That’s because both acoustic and electric presentations are based on the same one thing - how the strings vibrate when fitted onto that particular guitar. In one case, air is the translator. In the other another translator is added in series, being the electronics.

I see that as the foundation and soul of every electric guitar guitar, after observing these things and thinking about it keenly for a long time.

That Koa body always leaves me breathless!
