I love my Vela but for me, the bridge pickup is too bright.

Should I simply swap the bridge pickup out with another? If so, what would be a good swap? I don't want something too hot.

Secondly, I've heard that the Tele style bridge could be the culprit. That's hard for me to imagine since it doesn't seem to brighten up the neck pickup but if that's true, that would be an easier swap.

I`d screw the pole pieces down further into the pickup, and then try raising or lowering the entire pickup till you get your sound. I find that PRS pickups are capable of more sound variation by adjusting than any others i`ve touched in 50 + years of playing.

I agree, but I'd move the pup height before I adjusted the pole pieces (Unless you are at the end of the pup travel).

I saw Paul mention in a video that the Vela HB is very bright. Try lowering the pickup, which should darken the tone, then raise the pole pieces to get your output back. Dogrocketp is right, PRS pickups are very adjustable.

On my Vela the Tone knob is crazy sensitive and it can cut all the brightness out of the humbucker...to the point of almost muddy. Might want to really give that knob a tweak and see of you can get what you are after.

yup...that's what the tone control is for.
I find my satin Vela almost too dark and tame sometimes... wonder if it's the finish...
