Just some noodling around with my new Yamaha THR 10X amp I got yesterday.
Very cool little amp that can run off of 110v, or 8 AA batteries.
I am quite embarrassed to post any of my playing, as I always make mistakes when the camera is running

The Sony digital camera does not pick up bass very well at all, so the video will sound pretty tinny.
I could have used the Zoom R24 to record with, but there would be no video.

Yeah, I play like poop, just messing around here, as I am a living room/porch guitarist only.
I just got back into after having not played for around 30 years, but it is a lot of fun/relaxing to play.
I got this Yamaha amp so I can take it outside on my porch to play, and also plug in the iPod to jam along with.

I bought one of these last year (the THR10). Wouldn't be without it. Used to drag it around my lessons. Really handy and sounds great. Haven't yet scratched the surface of the supplied software etc.

I have not installed the software yet, but may soon.

Just amazed how much sound comes out of this little thing.
My favorite channel though has to be Brown 2.
Also all of the tone settings were at noon, but the gain was up around to 75%.

I am doing another one in a bit, but I am going to use my Blackstar amp.
I am going to attempt to use the Zoom R24 recorder with a Shure Beta 57 mic on the Orange cab, then run the finished WAV file into Windows Movie Maker and add some pics.

Have not had a change yet to try out the Zoom with a final mixdown which includes the drum kits.

OK, another poor sounding recording

Just used the Zoom R24, then downloaded the Master track file to my PC, and used Movie Maker and some pics.

Not really use to the Zoom, and I thought during the final mixdown I had the drums up louder, but the guitar is much more louder.
Also it took a few takes with the master mixdown, it does not work exactly like the book says.
This recording stuff is not easy for a newbie.

Also quite a bit of hum, that is normal when running just the treble pickup on the 408.
You should hear it when I split the coil with the mini toggle, tons of hum.
This is with the Blackstar amp now, not as much hum when using the Carvin.

Anyways, it was fun trying out the Shure mic instead of using the two onboard mics on the R24.
I found too that if I turned up the slider enough for the guitar, I could hear it coming through my two Rokit monitors along with the drums, so it was kind of like a stereo effect.

The stuff I am playing is just improv, just chords to keep time to the drums.

One tip I was given was to edit with the dry output. The THR10 will output both an effected and a dry signal (in stereo). When editing with audio software it's apparently easier to do using the dry signal. You can also use it to re-amp if you want.

I have mine sat here right next to my Orange Micro Terror (great through a decent cab) and Egnater Tweaker. Tweaker is up for sale at the moment. The new amps have made it a bit redundant.

I'd like a wee padded carry case for the THR10. Such a cool unit. Looks like a nice DAB radio and not out of place on the living room shelf. Why hasn't everybody got one!?

Oh, one thing I will say. When I got mine I had problems with buzzing (that'd go away when I touched the unit). Yamaha provided me with a more robust, three pin (so presumably earthed) power supply and that cured the problem. They did this for free and were quick about it.

Actually, things are so expensive in NZ I'll probably order it in the UK and have the MIL bring it out on her next visit (has to be some, small compensation...).

Got my case for the Yamaha today, very nice.

Anyways, another sound sample from me today, but using Sound Cloud instead of YouTube.
This is with the 408 again and the Blackstar amp, not the new Yamaha.

I now know what I did wrong on my last recording.
During the master recording I did not have the green light on to play back the guitar signal, so when I played the master back on my PC, it only had drums, and I used the regular wav file which did not have drum from the Zoom unit.
It had weak sounding drums as the Shure mic for the cabinet was picking up the drums from the monitor speakers.
I now have it figured out, and used the master mixdown file today.

This is just improv stuff, a tune that has been sticking in my head for several weeks, and is easy to play
