As requested by @DreamTheaterRules, I give you a slightly fumble-fingered demo of my Ministack of Doom VHT D-50. I will never understand how I can happily gig in front of others but camera demos by myself make my head stop working...

Note: I'm not trying to dial in a "Dumble tone" or Robben Ford or anyone else - this is the tone I like and the amp does it well, I make no claims of authenticity.

I really dug the tones you got. But even more important, for whatever reason, your personality shines through. For that reason, more than most, I really enjoyed the entire video. I only wish we could all hang out.

And you know...beard...Go Blue!

Thanks Aahzz! Agree that some tones you might dial in can sound wooly on neck pickup playing rhythm. But boy, they can sound nice on neck pickup for leads!

That sounded good. Thanks for doing it! I'm going to play that one of these days.

Listened again. Vela neck pickup with gain sounds GREAT!!! I might haves to check one of those amps out.

Third Rock stocks them :).

It’s funny, in some discussions among owners of this amp several people have said they find the VHT Chromeback speakers thin and fizzy. I don’t hear thin and fizzy at all, which makes me wonder if they’re listening to the brand and the price point.

Do you know who makes it and what speaker it's based on? If not, I'll do some research. The "65" type speakers are great with D voiced amps. I have a Warehouse ET65 (and an ET90) that I bet would sound great with it. It's one of my faves with the Archon and ATMA.

I've been toying with going WGS ET65. Doug told me to bring the head by his shop and he'd let me try through some of his speakers...in the meantime, though, I am happy with the stock speaker. I've found one post that said it's modeled after a Jensen, but it wasn't from any sort of authoritative source. I think some research is in order.... :)

I emailed VHT Customer support to see what they'll tell me about the Chromeback - will let you know when I hear back. Haven't had much luck finding real info through googling as yet...

So, it's the Chromeback, correct? I actually had one of those in a previous VHT cab. I think it's made by Eminence but can't remember.

PS Doug has the one Avatar of mine with an Eminence Private Jack (higher powered greenback type) and I really liked that speaker. That would be a good one to try it with if he still has that cab. He said he might take that one for himself rather than sell it.

I'd LOVE to hear that with my open back cab and my Eminence Red Fang Alnico. Bet that would be a great combo.

Just let me know if you want to try the amp or the Vela - could meet at Doug's, you could come here, I could go elsewhere, whatever - my schedule is generally pretty flexible.
