I’m holding out for a money prize.

I'm holding out for a money shot.

Well, I know it didn't come out of a Santana.......
I won’t justify that with a middle finger. Oops, too late. :D
No...
Lindy Fralin PAF?
That was on the list but no.
EVH Wolfgang.
Something similar was also on the list, but no.
Chevy Silverado?
Umm, no. :p
Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking about swapping the bridge pickup on my Vela for similar reasons. I like the sound but it's jarring going from neck to bridge pickup in this configuration with the D-type. So far I just adjusted the starla pickup a little lower and use it single coil a lot.

I'm with alantig on the EVH primarily because I have been recently looking at them :)

On my list was the Duncan ‘78, which is also in that vein.

it's a 'wrong' pickup...
Shoulda been a Railhammer... ;)

That’s pretty b!tchin’!
Lollar Raw Power.
I still don’t own a Lollar pickup and that’s got to change, but not yet...
Square base plate, so not DiMarzio
Oh oh oh! Not so fast! By not choosing the maker, you’ve chosen the maker!
You're not foolin' me by using someone else's picture, I know you put EMG's in yours, boogie.
You swore you wouldn’t tell! Bastage...

o_O Umm, no.

Ok, so you promised “clues”, get spillin’ :D
And here they come!
so its not a SD so theres goes antiquity guess, and its not a suhr thornbucker or a fender shawbucker. is it american?
The Thornbucker also made the short list. One will be had soon but may land in another project.
Yes, it’s American, as Elvis inadvertently surmised.
I’m holding out for a money prize.
:D
Hell, I’ll buy you lunch just for playing the home game.

Ok, here’s what we’ve got so far:
  1. It’s black
  2. It’s a humbucker
  3. It’s mounted backwards
  4. It’s DiMarzio
I’m typically a traditional PAF kinda guy and as P90 stated, a Duncan Antiquity was an instant solution. But I had something very different already in my possession so I opted to mix things up a bit. The Vela’s attitude still shines thru but it’s no longer timid.

Since they only make a couple of models, what do you think it is? :D

Eric Johnson?
Does he have a humbucker?
Transition.
Nope...
Nope...
Like this.....

mIm
o_O
Tell me you didn't go tone zone
Ok, I didn’t go Tone Zone.
What if I tell them how much you’re gonna spend?
Tree Fiddy?:D

It is an Artist model. The pickup was designed for a mahogany body guitar, so it naturally blends well with the exotic woods in the RL Vela. For gain and split clean - especially blended with the Type D - it is hitting it out of the park.

One more round of guesses before the reveal...

That is great info. Thanks for sharing!

My pickup comes from another “Texan”. While he hails from the Austin area, he was really born in Evansville, Indiana. And, no, not David Grissom.
