Recently picked up a gorgeous platinum silver McKorina from Dave's and I love everything about it except for the pickups. It sounds so lively and resonant unplugged but sounds kinda underwhelming plugged in. Ive messed with pickup height and settings on my amp but I think the McCarty pickups are not for me. Looking for some more clarity and balls.
So I have a bunch of killer 2 conductor pickups laying around (Motor City, Wolfetone, Manlius) from swapping sets in my LP. I was wondering if I could just wire up the 2 conductor pickups, braided ground to vol pot, hot to switch and not connect anything to the coil tap on the tone. Other than not being able to use the coil tap, would there be any noise or switching issues?
Eventually ill probably grab 4 conductor pickups and wire them proper with the coil tap but I figure I can test out what I have to see what works before dropping money on new pickups.
