Used PRS selling blues

Today, you can pay over $7K for a new core. So a bunch of guys think they’re used ‘99 is worth $3500. When I started buying PRS in 98-99, you could get a sweet artist package for $2500. Dealers would give you 30-40% off MSRP. Those days are long gone. But I don’t think that means a beater ‘99 Custom is worth $3500 today.

Delete if this violates the pricing discussion ban.

The mental illness is still running strong with many sellers.

Totally agreed.

I've had to come down to earth when I first posted my CE24. I slowly lowered the price over the past few months

Now I feel it's priced accordingly after doing some soul searching this weekend. Lol

I was watching that KL33 for a while, then Lovies posted one that was higher, and the original listing raised their price by another $100. They were still cheaper than Lovies but like really? It's been listed for over a year, might be an indicator the price isn't awesome to begin with...

PRS have historically been a slower moving guitar and not big on collectors radar , age and limited numbers and voodoo drive the resale market but a similar rule to most guitars apply , if you bought it new you usually need to hold it 10 years + to make a profit.
It also does not help that PRS continues to make high quality guitars and there are not really any Holy Grail PRS ( IMHO ) IE - 57- 60 Strat , 58-59 Burst LP.

Look at the ME1. I bought one new. That price and what they go for now are 5K + apart.

Plenty of things that are priced well are moving. What does priced well mean? It means a price at which it sells. Tail-chasing, I know.

I suspect that a large amount of the used inventory that’s out there aren’t serious sellers. They’re people who take the ten minutes to list something, on the odd chance that someone will want it badly enough to meet their price. That’s how there are things listed for months on end. Sellers just aren’t motivated to actually sell. Buyers aren’t so GAS’d up that they’ll pay more than they want to.

It costs nothing to list an item for sale on multiple platforms.

All of that distorts the used market. Combine it with new prices being much greater than in the past, and things seem a bit odd. What amazes me are not used listing prices, but the rate at which new guitars continue to sell at today’s prices. There’s demand out there.

Basically, the realistic used market is just much smaller than the overall used market. It’s the free listings that create the gap between the realistic used market and the optimistic used market.

I think this is a big part of it. List it, you get the crazy number awesome, if not it'll just sit.

I was trying to work with one today, they have it on offer and their counter was 2% off the listing and they absolutely wouldn't go lower. Like what's the point, just drop the offer option and list it for you bottom.

Yep. I did this initially. I remember what I paid for it. Thought someone would totally pay close to what I paid for it and wasn't really serious about selling for it.

Reality set in. There's gear I actually want and genuinely don't connect with this particular guitar. I'd keep it but I would genuinely never play it. It's sat in the closet the past 3 months I've had it listed.
