I finally had a chance to A/B my S2 Custom 24-08 with import pickups to a US CE 24. I could hear, and liked, the clarity difference between the pickups. I am also an 85/15 kind of guy.

Is the pickup upgrade path feasible? Can you put a non-08 neck pickup into an 08 neck position? Should you go for the electronics at the same time?

… or should I just save up a little more to get a newer S2 or CE model that’s already setup with the US stuff and call it a day.

I think I’ve got my S2 pretty dialed in setup-wise. Still a great guitar.

To answer your question yes you can put a non 08 pickup into your S2 24-08. The wiring may be different but it’s easily done by the right tech/person. If you go that route I would do it incrementally so you can hear the difference. Pickup first then eventually change out the electronics. Don’t forget a Switchcaft jack.

Perfect, thanks!

I bought a new PRS Core wiring harness (5 way blade, no push/pull tone) and a new pair of US made 85/15's from a Canadian PRS dealer for my Custom 24 S2. It has the original wiring harness and a set of \m/ pickups in it now which is how I got it. I'll be installing it all later this week.
