After months of hunting for a vintage (pre 1995) Ce24, at a reasonable price, I finally scored what I hope will be the vintage “beater” I’ve been looking for. The guitar was listed on guitar center’s used section online, which I have been checking daily for months. It was priced $500 under any other Pre 95 CE on the bay or reverb, there were no photos uploaded, no serial number listed, no year listed, nothing. Just said CE-24 Black. I immediately called the store and asked If they could pull it out and tell me about it. The employee was not exactly eager to help, but he put me on hold while he pulled the guitar out.

Once he had the guitar, he told me it was really beat up. He also told me that he didn’t think it was actually CE. My heart sank a little, but I convinced him to send me some photos so I could see for myself. Here’s what I got a few minutes later:

A 1993 CE-24 in Black with OHSC. It was love at first sight, and I instantly bought it.

Obviously, it needs a lot of elbow grease to clean up the rust, the finish has certainly seen better days, and the tuners have unfortunately been replaced. But I can live with all of that. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the neck is clean and the frets are in okay shape. I guess I’ll find out in a few days. Wish me luck!

    Can’t see pics but, Bangin’!

Even if it’s worked, it can still be a great guitar! I’ve had my 93 CE refreted a few times, and each time it’s been totally worth it.

great to hear! I won’t hesitate to have the work done if the neck is clean otherwise.

Do you know if there is there a certain host that I should use to upload photos?

Cool, and nice score. A guitar will never get well used like that if it sucks so I'm sure with a little work you'll have a great instrument on your hands.

Dude, that's a great find! It sure has been rode hard, but I'll bet there's a lot of life left in it. I bought a beat to snot Core Mira last November that looked worse than that. Got her all cleaned up, new electronics and pick ups.....it's a beast.

That actually looks in pretty good shape aside from being dirty.

If it were mine, I’d pull it all apart, soak the bridge and blue magic it, buy some new pots and tuners, and polish the hell outta it before putting it back together.

Sweet! Are you able to determine that because of the color of the block? Or is there some other indicator?

    Awesome!
My first PRS was a ‘94 that had the same specs as yours.

Find some old tarnished PRS tuners then play it hard for the next few decades!

Haha, will do! Unfortunately phase 1s are a lot more expensive than I was expecting, it’s definitely on the list though.

Heck yeah! That's some good stuff right there. I'd just clean it up a little and rock it.

The whole thing is nickel plated (vs. bare brass block on later models)
Also, the two-piece models will have three screws beneath the saddles to mount the top plate to the block. That won't be there on a one-piece.
