Update my Vela with Narrowfield?

Thinking I might want to update my OG spec purple Vela with a Narrowfield in the neck like the new ones, but they don’t sell them on the PRS site and there aren’t any on Reverb or eBay.

Any idea how to acquire one?

Also, is it the same shape/layout as the “type D” chubby singlecoil that’s in mine?

Personally, I prefer the sound of the type D in my S2 studio. Buy another one, and you get two USA pickups!

They're a unique shape, so you'd need a new pickguard, but that's the least of your worries. Good luck finding a Core Narrowfield. It will require very much patience waiting for one to pop up on Reverb or eBay. You'd be better off buying a new-spec Vela, swapping parts and then reselling it.

This is the strange part - D1’s were many years out of production before the introduction of squabbins.

Remember, the 2024 S2’s have Core pickups, and a Narrowfield in the neck.

The 2024 core narrow field sounds great. The SE NF3 is pretty decent in terms of approaching this neck pickup, but the core regular narrow field is more dynamic. The SE is smoother and more rounded. The core has more treble and a wider range.

I say this because finding one of these nf3 se pickups may be a lot easier once they start reselling and people swap them out. The pickups measure the same length and width wise to fit the narrow field pickups on cores. The nf3 se can fit full humbuckers so I suspect we will see a market for the pickups to be resold.
