I guess it wasn't completely unexpected but until 3pm today that new guitar was going to be a Gibson. The plan was to pick up an ES-335 but while I was sitting in the shop trying to make up my mind, this came in.

I don't know what pickups are in it but I like it a lot. Even like the sound of the piezo although I can't see using 2 cables. I saved some money and got a nice guitar. Of course this really doesn't take care of my desire for a 335 but that will have to wait for a while now.

That's a really nice one!

I had a custom shop 335 a few years back, and sold it to get a semi-hollow PRS. It was a good move. There was nothing wrong with the 335, except that it felt like I was driving a '56 Buick. Sounded good, but the PRS really floated my boat.

I really like the Gibson scale length and the ones I was looking at had Bigsbys on them. Completely different guitars than what I ended up with. That is not a bad thing of course.

I just spent some time using a small acoustic amp and a Mini Rectoverb combo and was a little surprised just how good the piezo sounded alone and how big the combo of both amps sounded. The only sound I didn't really like was when I blended the piezo in through the mag output.

I've heard that the piezo systems were updated in the last couple of years. Mine is from 2005 and sounds rather impressive. Makes me wonder how good the new ones sound.

That's a good way to run the piezo and mags. It becomes very addictive. Wait until you hear it through a good DI and PA!

Yep, the piezos were upgraded. It's definitely an improvement...and I liked the older ones, too! As has been pointed out every time a piezo guitar discussion comes up, it won't replace a mic'd acoustic, but who playing rock directly mics an acoustic on stage? Yes, I know it happens, but ain't nobody got time for that!

Enjoy it!

The only problem I ran into was a lot of extra noise when I used both guitar output jacks. Ground loop maybe? Not as useable if I'm going to get that much noise. I'm sure there is some type of pedal that will help with that right?

Nice looking machine. I haven't played one of these yet but my guess is it would be fabulous!

I have one of those! Same color too!

The pups should be Archtops unless someone has swapped them out.

I have the same problem with the hum when I connect piezo to an acoustic amp and the pups to a regular amp. Both amps are on the same ac circuit.

Les or EM7, any thoughts here?

Man, that is a beauty! The flame and the burst go perfectly together. You were in the right place at the right time.

Sometimes you get lucky. I was prepared to spend a whole lot more on the 335.

Just get a decent DI box. Any DI may work, but I bought the Radial and it's great. You could maybe try one of those Hum X outlet adaptors too, not sure that would be correcting the right problem though.

Congrats on the new guitar!

I had the same issue with a P22 I bought about a year ago. Ended up returning it because it was unusable the way I wanted to use it.

I'm going to look into a DI box to see if that might help with the issue. It sounds absolutely huge through both amps so it's worth finding a solution for the noise.
