Twelve pedal shootout, with two more videos coming later.
I have always enjoyed these guy's reviews.

Strictly speaking, it isn't a product review or shootout (no "which is best" kind of thing happening); more of a feature video "article" really. But they did a nice job for sure.

One thing I like about this is that instead of merely talking about pedals and features with very little context, they show how differently these pedals mesh with the 4 guitars and two amps, and they give a nice context as to how one might want to actually dive in and use these things.

I like their videos, too. They seem like very intelligent guys, and they're good players. Thanks for posting this!

Fun aside: They had an A/B box for the two amps, but they didn't have one for the two players' guitars, and wound up passing that cable back and forth. Kinda old-school!

That would have been cool if they could have A B'd the guitars too.
I think my favorite one was the Echoplex booster.

Yes, I have watched quite a few of their vids, very nicely put together.
What we do not hear though via YouTube is that they had the amps up quite loud for better saturation and breakup.

cheers corey one of their best yer, les thatpedalshow is their youtube channel, hours of fun

Thanks for posting the link, I'll watch tonight. I do like the Guitarist video channel, and I just noticed Dan & Mick have left Guitarist (their Nov. 2014 Klon vs Archer video was really good & funny). Great work...and I LOVE the tone of that aqua strat.

The EP Boost is a nice pedal; a little gritty for a clean boost, but it has a thing it does. The one I had sounded great with my DG30, but wasn't crazy about it with the HXDA, so I got a Suhr KokoBoost instead that I like with both amps. It's got a "hi-fi" thing going, and it also has a sweep-frequency mid boost that acts like a treble booster does, and gooses the amp in a different way. This can be switched on or off with the footswitch, and its level is independent of the clean boost.

On the other hand, my son loved the EP boost when he was visiting (he was on tour with 30 Seconds to Mars at the time), and really got into it. I don't know if he got one or not, actually, but he's currently touring with a Mesa Lone Star 100, so I sent him a new Klon that he really likes with it as a clean boost. It does something similar to the EP when the gain is turned low and it's used as a booster, in that it has a bit of grit. IMHO the Klon is great with a Fender style amp, and sounds cool with the Lone Star (which of course does a Fender style thing, as well as some other stuff).

I really like these guys. And the premise is one of my mantras...when it comes to boosts, overdrives and certain amps, YMMV. It has taken literally 3 years for me to find the right combination of boost and ODs with my current rig because despite playing another certain amp for over 25 years, what works well with it doesn't necessarily work well with the Super Dallas. The EP Booster is one of my favs but the Boogie hates it. So does the Archon. In fact, all high gain amps I've tried didn't like that pedal. It's an impedance thing. Oh well, that why there are other offerings out there, as Les points out. And these guys underscore that fact. Some work really well with a particular guitar on a particular amp. So if you have, for example, a sweet Keeley modded TS-9 but no longer dig it because you're playing a Marshall, don't sell it: buy a Fender Deluxe instead!

So, if you have an OD you don't dig, keep buying amps until you find its perfect match.

Boogie, you're incorrigible! Then again, there's nothing more fun than bringing home an awesome new amp!

And yes, I'm including sex here.

But not guitars, they're in a league that transcends comparison to all other activities. ;)

I'll tell you the same thing other people tell me when I say something similar: maybe you're doing it wrong.

I feel about the same way after sex as after I buy a guitar pedal -- guilty about spending the money I spent.

...if I'm doing either at all.

I currently have a moratorium on...

...paying for anything.

Check out "That Pedal Show" on The Gigrig's youtube page. Same guys, same idea of pedal shootouts.

Lots of great choices out there for dirt. I've gone through a ton, and continue to go through more. Not that I'm not satisfied but I'm naturally curious and I have a "gotta try 'em all"....

I still have my old standbys of a Nobels ODR-1 and an Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion. Those are definitely staying put.

For a "boost" the EP boost is very good. As is the ZVex SHO or the Dunlop Echoplex Booster. MXR Micro Amp, TC Spark, on and on. But my favorite is the least favorite of them all - the Fulltone Fat Boost 2....everyone covets 1 and 3. The 2 one was more of a tweedy drive and wasn't as clean as the first one, so they went back to it for the 3rd version. I really like the Fat Boost with a bit of an overdrive in front. It gives it a very tube saturation feel without driving tubes (which I prefer not to, just because it's easier for versatility sake to just have a clean amp and lots of pedals to emulate everything for covers/sideman work or for recording sessions). Something like the FB2 gives a really warm grit after any of your other dirtboxes.

My 2nd favorite is actually the Dunlop Echoplex booster. I prefer it to Xotic's EP Booster, and I love Xotic and have a bit of their stuff in storage. but the Dunlop pedal doesn't putz with the tone as much IMO.

Also don't forget about a simple plain jane BOSS GE-7. I use one constantly for a midboost live or for any tweaking in recording.
