hey dudes! i dont know if this is the right place for this, but i have a problem with this, i try all, i change the nut for a graphite one new, i take it to a 3 different luthiers, very expensive, and ll say, that guitar never gonna be in tune. Of course i can use tremolo, but when i use it a lot tuning dont stay, how can i fix this? are the luthiers right and i cant do anything? in m country are not any prs dealer i buy it in japan.

By the way i have some more question, my prs have the plastic piece that protects the soul of the guitar, and its just black, it doesnt appear prs like all the other ones, is this normal? i dont see any prs like that, i dont think guitar is a fake but i wanna know that because is very estrange.

thanks for all guys

Very hard to tell if it's a fake with that (flipped) image. You don't usually see fake SEs so you should be OK. Have you got a pic of the body?

For the truss rod cover, it may have been turned over, so take it off and have a look under. It may have been replaced with a plain one at some stage too.

As for the tuning it's very hard to diagnose however the next step might be to try locking tuners. These are fairly inexpensive (should be less than what a luthier charges for an hour of work) and easy to install.

this is a pic when it was new, when i buyed in japan, i definetly try locking tuners, but a friend has the same without locking and works well, thanks for all guys youre amazing

Those knobs are not the stock ones are they? I thought they should be black.

As far as I can tell it's legit. Some of the common causes of tuning instability are:

-Incorrectly stretched strings;
-Faulty strings (it happens);
-Incorrectly wound strings around the tuning post (there's a method you can use to "lock" them on). Installation of locking tuners will eliminate this, assuming they're used right;
-String binding in the nut (slots may need widening and/or lubrication);
-Incorrect intonation making you think there's tuning instability;
-Trem sticking on the pivot screws (I believe light machine oil is the go here);
-Incorrect use of trem (sometimes it needs a pull up after heavy use);
-Trem knife edge not sitting in the screw recesses properly;
-etc!

yeah the knobs are this color, its not the sapphire one, its the whale blue one and is this way i dont change it.

thanks for all, i amb looking for all this things, its sad that luthiers say to me they cant do nothing i can beleive it...

and you say guitar its not a fake? then why i dont have prs pastic on the soul covering? its just black and any prs se i see is black is very strange

thanks for all

When I still had my SEs, I had Schaller back locking tuners installed on all of them.

Great tuners and they fit without any mod.

Try undoing the screw on the soul covering (truss rod cover) and seeing what's underneath.

The usual pointers of a fake are weird body shape, trem that isn't quite right, tuners at funny angles etc.

Have you got a photo of the back of the headstock? If it's got "made under license by World Music..." plus other fine print, and the tuners have "PRS" on the back, then it's 99% not a fake. They usually don't go to that level of trouble.

Along with a close up of the back of the headstock, as justmund requested, could you also take a close up of the tremolo/bridge so that we can see whether there are any obvious set-up problems?

What strings are on the guitar? Do you have the stock .009s, or did you upsize to .010s or .011s?

Oh, and the truss rod cover (soul cover) could just be a blank because someone replaced it. But also check to see if someone did indeed flip it over.

yeah in the back of the headstock puts the same you write here, i mean, i dont think its fake just the cover of soul dont have written prs, and i dont know why, maybe in the factory forget it? i dont know and i dont remember in the shop if all the others are the same way, maybe the guy on the store when he was touching the soul he breaks and puts me another new i dont know but is very strange.

and thanks i should try schallers lockng tuners or maybe the prs american ones ? when i canbuy this original?

im taking photos of tremolo i will upload

thanks

I would normally say you can get the original PRS locking tuners from the PRS store, but the PRS store seems to only ship to the US - must be some national-level dealer agreements or something.

So try John Mann's Guitar Vault:

https://store.guitarvaultusa.com/category_s/7121.htm

US$100 for a set of Phase II tuners, plus shipping I guess.

thanks for all, i definetly buy phaser 2, but where i can buy it? in my country, spain, theres no prs dealer, im very fucked with this, in the past there was a shop called bosco that was prs dealer but they close.

maybe in the link you posted? or maybe thomann?
