Trying to identify PRS McCarty before I purchase it?

Hi There, I'm looking at buying a McCarty 1996-98 model. It has a 24fret bolt on neck? I have been trying to find some info on this guitar and can not find one like it. Does any one know of this version. The guy says he has all the paper work. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe there was ever a McCarty with a bolt on neck. I could be wrong but I suspect it's a CE24.

Best thing is to get the serial number and send to PRS for info.

Sounding like an older CE-24 that was ordered with the birds option. Birds weren't standard on the old CE's.

Yep, what garrett said. Check the serial number here on the PRS site, or contact them directly. And, if you can, post some pictures.

There are many fake PRS guitars originating from that area of the world, and I'd/we'd hate to see you pay for something that you're not really getting.

To add photos, you do not upload them here.

Instead, you upload them to a third-party site like Imgur, and link to the images directly.

If you have never done that before, be prepared for a bit of a learning curve - you have to grab the direct link to the image and embed it properly, and that seems to trip people up.

And as Glide-bpm said, it sounds like you have a 24 fret CE, with 5-way knob for pickup selector. With the birds, that would make it a bit unusual - CEs mostly had dots (or moons?).

It seems like a nice CE though, birds are fairly uncommon on those. They usually had dot inlays. It's a legit PRS, but a CE 24 is quite different from a McCarty.

That being said the AUD is pretty much bang on with CAD. Check out more listings of PRS CE-24 with birds before you decide.
She's a looker though, and I bet it's a great player too.

It’s almost looks like the seller may have bought some “case candy” to bump up the sale price?! Possibly.

Or the shop could've been careless and grabbed the wrong case at the time of sale. Or the cases got switched around when somebody resold it out of their collection...
