Truss Rod Cover Size Compatibility for Custom Truss Rod Covers

I did check some older threads and didn't see the info, and I'm just wondering if anyone here can tell me from experience if the China made PRS Hollowbody II's truss rod covers match the size of the Korea made or the Indonesia made PRS SE guitars' truss rod covers. Just looking to customize a little bit and what I've found listed specifies fitting the PRS SE guitars made in Korea and Indonesia, but no mention of the China made PRS SE.

Well I can tell you what I know so far, and this isn't meant to bump or promote anyone in particular.


www.wecinlay.com ~ Recommended by some members of this forum in older threads. Told me via email that making for PRS SE guitars is not a problem. However between Korean, Indonesian, and Chinese made SE's there may be size differences. Also I've read it said that some SE guitars have USA sized truss rod covers. Will find out the specifics. Seems to be the most accommodating to customers' customization needs. Offers black & white, and colored. Uses ebony, rosewood, and koa for the covers.

I will use that Size Chart soon and report my findings so the info that might specify sizes of USA core and SE's made in Korea, Indonesia, and China can be here for use by others.

Seems I've found out from the WEC Inlay guy that PRS truss rod cover sizes he's familiar with are:

-USA PRS's TRC's which are a size of 43mm or 1 11/16” from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge. (Shape T12 on linked Size Chart)

-Some PRS SE's use a larger size of 45mm or 1 3/4" from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge. (Shape T13 on linked Size Chart)

-Other PRS SE's have the smaller size of 43mm or 1 11/16” from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge, same as the USA ones. (Shape T12 on linked Size Chart)

There is one more PRS TRC size/shape on the linked size chart, T30, which appears to measure 39mm from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge. Not sure who's guitar that sized TRC belongs to exactly.

So all that matters for PRS TRC's is that measurement from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge on your existing TRC you want to replace. My China made PRS SE happens to have the smaller US sized cover. I do not know if that goes for all Chinese made SE's while Korean and Indonesian made ones are always another size. Accurate measurement prior to placing an order would be the way to go.

Hey Abe, thanks for doing the legwork on this! I was curious about the compatibility too. Good to know that the measurement from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge is the key. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to customize my TRC. Appreciate the update!

Thank you Black Dog. That makes us know that USA PRS's and at least some if not most or all China and Indonesia made PRS SE's TRC's measure 43mm from the center of the screw hole to the bottom edge. I just can't say if that makes the Korean SE's the only ones that have that measurement at 45mm.

So basically, if someone isn't sure they can just get the biggest and sand the bottom until it fits. That was going to be my suggestion.

Thanks jimfisher. That does seem to be the same size as my China SE and what the WECinlay guy told me is the US size he's familiar with, specifically the center of the hole to the bottom edge measurement which is of the most importance.

At one point I purchased a three ply plain truss rod cover for my SE DGT. This truss rod cover was suppose to fit SE import models. When it arrived it was too long. I ordered it from Philadelphia Luthier. The below photos depict the measurements.

This thread has examples of custom TRC's from both WECinlay and ThaliaCapos.

The WECinlay one is a bit thicker and painted. The ThaliaCapos one is thinner and moreso plain wood.

Some may also wish to know that WEC ships from Winnipeg, MB Canada, and ThaliaCapos ships from CT, USA.
