Oh My God!!!! My ex wife and daughter are moving to a new house next week and they are doing the last of the deep clean outs. Somehow, stuffed way back in one of the closets was the guitar that I learned how to play on! There are pictures of me, fresh out of high school, in some of the albums here on Facebook playing this guitar. It is grimy as hell, obviously after all these years it will be in need of a good setup, but, I think it may be worth me cleaning this up and playing it. This was certainly a trip down memory lane!

Again, this was a facebook post so I don't know how long the pix will last. Judging from the replies over there, a lot more people remember that guitar than I would have thought. They ever brought up stories/situations that I, myself had forgotten about until they brought it up.

Just looking this thing over, after all these years, the neck is still straight. AND there is no fret sprout! Not sure how that is possible. I bought it used, at a pawn shop, on 69th Street in Upper Darby [PA], for like $150. IN THE LATE 1990s! I will definitely give this girl a good once over and she how she sounds.

Also, look at the pic of me from the late 1990s. The knobs and pickup covers were completely white. Then look at the ones I took yesterday. I know some of the relic loving S type player would kill for that kind of natural aging on the plastics. 😂

Too cool!! It's like saying hello to a long lost friend. Get it cleaned up and have fun with it!

I have a Hagstrom 1 that my dad bought for me back in 1966. According to the serial number it's actually a 1962 model.

I've been playing it lately too! One day I'm gonna get around to give it some needed work as the switches and volume pot need to be replaced. But the neck is about as rock solid as you can get.

When I play that guitar it's makes me wonder all the more, where have the years gone?

if you do clean up and fix up that old relic, post some pics of it so we can see the before & after.
I am definitely going to clean it up and set it up. The only thing I am actually concerned about are the pots and switch. Who knows the level of corrosion that has built up in those things.

Deoxit F5 (with the lube) worked wonders on the pots of a 40 year old Yamaha JX-50 amp.

Killer find that absolutely needs new strings. Maybe think twice about cleaning all that 'character' on the guitar body, especially if there are any personal memories attached to the decades old grime!
