I am and always have been a Strat guy. I have a 1992 MIM, 2021 50's Vintera, and also a 2003 American Standard. I just picked up the American Standard in a swap for a Les Paul. I definitely got the better value and better guitar in that deal (not a surprised, the gentleman had bad arthritis and wanted a lighter guitar). The Silver Sky went from my #1 to not being played much at all. I have an SE Custom 24 (though not a huge fan of it anymore). I also have P90 Les Paul, Epiphone 335, and PRS SE Soap Bar. Have some other random guitars like Squire Strat and Ibanez.

I put the Silver Sky for sale BEFORE I traded for the Strat. I wanted to sell and pick-up a Dead Spec (obviously adding $$$). The new strat can get that Jerry tone and I was intrigued by the Dead Spec...but now not caring so much.

I forgot the Silver Sky (it is a First Year model in the defunct Horizon Red) was for sale. A guy made me an offer for a 2003 Custom 22 Ten-Top. Value wise, I believe this is a fair trade. I'm struggling because I was so fond of the Silver Sky and that color is now unusual. But also realizing I don't play it very often.

There is no right or wrong answers - but curious what ya'll would do in that situation. My music tastes are varied but boiled down: Gilmour, Knopfler, Mayer, Lifeson, SRV, Santana are my guitar influences. I certainly have enough variety of guitars to cover all spaces. So this is more a gut on the two guitars or maybe how the Silver Sky fits into the grand scheme or whatever would help you decide...

Since I Am Not A Strat Guy I Would Do It. It Would Also Really Depend On The Guitar Being Traded And Its Sound, Condition, Etc. If Your Silver Sky Is Mint And In That Color I Would Be Very Selective. You May Want To Play It A Day Or Two And See If You Can Truly Part With It And Have No Regrets. If You Are Not 1000% Certain You Would Have No Regrets, Hold Off Because Finding That Color And One In The same Condition is One Thing But It May Not Play As Nice As What You Have...(Of Course It Could Play Better) But That May Be A Hunt You Might Not Want To Involve Yourself In. In There Are No Feelings/Reasons To Keep It, Move It Along For Something That You Would Play.

As much as I love my Silver Sky for the right CU22 I would do that trade all day.
Then get the Dead Spec you want down the line. or grab a deal on another Silver Sky and put a Brass Nut and a Alembic Blaster on it still will be less than a new SS

I would hope the CU22 would be more valuable than the SS… but ya never know with Mayer fanbois.
You know, I looked on Reverb and the ones for sale are all about 1K about the SS value. But looking at sold, their price are at or lower. I'm a bit baffled. What do you think the true value of the CU22 is? I am ONLY interested in doing this deal if I making out better in the trade. I may end up flipping it and have zero desire to lose out on value for a guitar I might be on-the-fence.

I paid $1700 last year for my 10 top '00 cu22 (moons, no birds and fixed bridge) last year. But I feel like I got a pretty dang good deal in that scenario. I usually see ones from that era closer to the $2k+ range and rising. higher prices the newer it is

Yeah, I don’t exactly understand the market anymore either.

If you’re on the fence, I’d say stay where you’re at and keep the SS.

You may end up making like, $300 on the trade, but if the demand for CU22s is lower, you could wind up waiting longer for it to move.

Looks like about an even trade regarding selling prices. Right in the $1,700 + range. You'd probably make out a little better with the Cu22, but once you Reverb fees (if you flip it there), it's going to be a wash.

If it were a 2023 Custom 22, it would be a great trade. 2003, even to good depending on the guitar.
