Top of nut question

I thought the top of the nut was supposed to be even with the center of the strings, so looking at a cross-section of the strings at the nut, the bottom half of the string would be in the slot and the top half of the string would be above the nut.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

On my CU24, the slots are the right depth for string clearance, but the top of the nut is well above the strings.

Am I missing something?

Yes.

PRS does things a little differently. They've always used a taller/deeper nut.

Hard to argue with the results.
