Times are tough

Sorry to hear. Hang in there bud. Don't leave the forum, we will find you!

You're a great tattoo artist. That's a deserving thing, if you ask me.

Bet a lot of us would kick in to a Go Fund Me page to help support and honor your art. It wouldn't take all that many of us to make a difference with even small contributions.
I'm in. Just tell me when and where....

Hang in there bud. You obviously don’t need a PRS to hang here. Still, it sucks selling stuff to make ends meet. Been there. Time for @WingerRules to get that back piece started. The big question is it a DT or Winger piece. I’d advise against anything to do with She’s only 17… 🤨
I will absolutely chip in on a back piece for Howie.

No ink for me. I’m already covered in natures ink. 😀

Hang with it, KB, nothing stays bad (or good) forever. You ought to give some thought to taking folks up on their kindness and willingness to help. It might just get you through, if this is only a temporary thing. It’s hard to accept help, and for a good man it should be, but when it’s genuinely needed it does good things for giver and receiver alike to link arms in the fight.

I've gone through some tough times too as is the case with most poeple. The one thing that always helped me was knowing that no matter what I went through, I was still living someone elses dream.

My dad always told me "it's better to have a plan and fail than having no plan at all." So once I was in a position of making some pretty good money, I socked away as much as I could when most folks I knew were spending like there was no tomorrow. Then 2008 came. Lot's of layoffs where I was working and I thought I'd be one of the few who wouldn't be let go. Wrong. In January of 2009 I got laid off for 14 months. No one was hiring anywhere. Yeah, I collected unemployment but that didn't cover everything. But because I saved all those years prior to the layoff I was able to pay my bills just fine for those 14 months. Dad and mom, you taught me well.

We are in the same boat. My wife becomes a nervous wreck if we don't have a bunch of money saved up. It's a great problem to have really.

I'm off work for 6 months and the disability checks are a joke but we have money saved to easily get us through.

The other part of that equation is we don't have much debt. I refuse to be strapped for cash because of huge debt. That's just how I am.

Things weren't always this way for me but I am thankful they are now.

Another two years and it's retirement time!!!

So glad for you and your wife!! I'm not rich by any means at all, but living a very modest lifestyle and saving is what helped me throught tough times. For years I also tossed extra money towards the principal on my house payment. Paid it off 7 years early.

I was forced into retirement in March of 2020 but it worked out great. My plan was to work until March of 2021, so when I got the word that I was laid off I looked at the numbers and it was enough to continue my low key lifestyle. Wouldn't want it any other way. I've been divorced for years, don't date, got my few toys, my books and my art that I dabble in from time to time. I feel blessed. Some would say I'm one big boring homebody and I could care less. I'm happy and content.

Another thing my dad used to say. He looked at the people who weren't happy unless they were spending money instead of saving something.
When tough times hit them and they were in trouble dad would say "Yup, their good times will soon be forgotten." So very true.

My youngest son got out on his own last year and I've drilled into that boy over and over and over how important it is to save for retirement.

I helped him open a retirement account at 18 with 100.00 coming out of his checking account every month. Now he has started his 401k at 21.

If he keeps at it he could easily retire in his 50s. Makes me happy knowing he's building a future at an early age.

I have been completely ok driving older paid for vehicles but my wife being a real estate broker always has a new car.

We paid our main house off early as well, feels good but paying the property taxes takes away from the "paid off" sensation! Ugh.

Sounds like you and your wife got a good thing going.

Wish my son would have listened to me. Got himself into a LOT of financial trouble from biting off more than he could handle. Paid dearly for it and too many times I had to help him out ($$$) because of mistakes he made. I'll give one example and that's when he wanted to buy a house. I knew deep inside he just wasn't ready. (This was about 18 years ago). He had two friends who were going to move in with him (of which they did) and the rent they paid him went towards the house payment. Without them he couldn't afford it. I told him prior "this is not a wise move because on your own you can't do it....and what if they move out? What's your plan B?" Well, he had a falling out with them, they moved out and my son wound up filing for bankruptcy. It was one thing after another.

Sounds like you raised your oldest son right. I hope your son sticks to the plan. I'll be 72 next March and I couldn't begin to tell you where the years went. Again, glad I listened to my dad.

K-DankTat, you are always a member here, regardless of your ownership (or not) of a PRS guitar.

You're astonishingly talented at your craft - don't ever doubt yourself.

May I ask: What is seasonal about the ink biz? Why is December usually slow? Just curious about the ebb and flow of an industry.

Bless you - you'll get through this. Hang in there.

=K
