I did a NGD post when I got my new CE, and got my CU24 35th goldtop back from a lengthy repair. But now I’ve been able to spend time with both. Man, they are wildly different guitars, despite identical specs outside woods and neck joint.

I got a PRS Horsemeat OD when I got the CE. I liked it so much I bought the Mary Cries Compressor. They too interact vastly differently with either guitar.

The CE is lightweight and you feel that immediately when you pick it up. It has an almost Strat feel in my hands. Maybe it’s just the maple neck. I can increase gain on both pedals with the CE. The metallic sheen on these ‘satin’ guitars is a unique finish. I did replace the black plastic TRC with maple.

The CU24 has more heft, just feels like a completely different animal. I was surprised at how much I had to back down the gain on both pedals when I switched to it.

Not really sure what my point was…. Guess it’s just been a really fun home alone week to reconnect with the CU and get to know the CE. The CU24 has been down in the music room. I’ve had the CE and Roland Micro Cube on the sofa with me in the living room. But I spent a lot of time with both after rearranging my pedalboard for the new additions.

Great to see the Cu24 back in the house

It was a looong wait. Greg Platzer did the repairs. He’s swamped and stopped taking new jobs shortly after I shipped him this one. I got bumped several times by big acts. But in the end he did a great job and did me right on the repairs given the delays. I’m thrilled to have it back. He lowered the action, great setup!

The satin red on those is so gorgeous. I wish they did a rosewood or black headstock face on the CE, or matched it to the body. The bare maple face just looks odd to me.

I, too, really dig that Red Apple Metallic in its satin wood-grain finish. (The Midnight Metallic is also super sultry.) Surely if I didn't already have a pretty cool CE-24, I'd be buying one now!
