Thoughts on PRS Custom 22 Fire Burst 10 Top Quilt

My #1 (and backup #2) are triple soapies from 2010. I had an early 200’s one, but hated the pickups. The pickups are slightly modified SD vintage P-90’s. The earlier version had ceramic P-90’s, too piercing to my ears and amp. The neck is amazing, especially with a couple of coats of car wax. It’s sonically very versatile. These days I’m mostly playing blues, funk, and r n’b. And it rules on all those with a 6L6 or 6SC7 tubed amp. The tone control can take you all kinds of places you might not normally think to go. Use the neck pickup, roll back the tone, use your thumb, and you can play Wes Montgomery Latin style solos nicely. Mine are strung with 9-42’s. Some would say it sounds like a fat Strat. To my ears it’s just a bitchass P-90 guitar. Put gain on it and the pickups really sing. While I have several types of PRS, this one stays with me till the end. My younger son will get it for its next life. This is the sound I spent 50 years looking for.

I'd want it for the P-90s and the look alone. That's before this review. Sounds like a fantastic guitar.

Solid guitar. I had one for a bit and at times I definitely miss it.

I tried it a few minutes ago... its one of the best, if not the best guitar I've played in my life. The neck shape is perfect, the pickups are amazing in all positions, fit and finish top, the 10 Top has this kind of depth richness, almost 3D.

The sustain is amazing, it just sings - the old discussion that the tone is in the fingers, yes it is to some extension, but I probably gained tone on my way to the store because I never sounded so nice 😅

I didn't bring it with me as just yet, as I have this old rule of wait a couple of days to see if its not impulse... in this case is probably hopeless anyway but I did it neverthless.

Its reserved to me so I will get it next week most likely.

Why Wait? Your Rule Seems Like A Mental Obstacle Serving No Purpose In This Instance Since You Already Want It And Expect To Buy It Anyway. Buy That Bad Boy And Play It And Finish Your Weekend Strong. :)
