Hi,

long time no posting - been out of the guitar game but slowly getting back. I have the chance of picking up locally (NOS) at a store a PRS Custom 22 Special (10 TOP Quilt) with DGT neck and 3 soapbar pickups.

Its exactly like this one (picture from the Internet of similar guitar):

General thoughts on this model? Many thanks in advance.

Love the color. Should have a wide variety of tone options with the three soapies. The maple fingerboard will be brighter than you might expect. You should try it out before buying or have some guaranteed that it can be returned.

Edited - Didn’t notice they were soapies instead of buckers.

The carve is similar , but it doesn't have the same BIG frets and 11-49 strings which are a big part of the DGT.
I thought it was too , Les schooled me , then I got a DGT and I can tell you while close they are NOT the same.

It covers Strat territory well , the P90's have more girth and OH YES they love gain . The Maple necks will have the most strat tone.
I have strat with a set of custom wound Fralins that is amazing , that being said since I got the triple Soapy it stays in it's case

Is there a full spec list? I contacted PRS support but they just gave me general and scarce specs. Are there a detail spec list, namely the pickup specs and if it haves locking tuners, etc?

I had one like it, and regret selling it. One of PRS' finest instruments ever.

The Duncan pickups on that CU22 Soapbar are a bit brighter, and as Greywolf says, more Strat-like, than the vintage Duncans on the later 594 Soapbar model that I also had. It has a crisp "cut" that helps define it in a dense band mix.

But imagine a Strat with a beefy, not thin, sound and you're getting kinda close to what it does that a Strat will never do. You can always roll the guitar volume down a bit and get more of the Strat vibe.

The middle pickup switching options give you a nice quack, if you need that.

Great description!

The band I was in at the time when I had my '01 CU22 Soapy, those guys loved the sound of it, and they never complimented anything!

I got one from Howard Leese Killer guitar the pickups are pretty hot as delivered , does a bunch of sounds because of the 5 way switch , Mine was the same color also letting mine go was not one of my best decisions
I would 100% buy it again if I could find another or the one I sold
If you don't buy it let me know where it is so I can
