The speakers are world-class, two-years old and were $18k new. Thoughts?

I once sold some gear for hi fi equipment when I was in college.

That was a very, very long time ago. I'm sure I'd have neither the gear, nor the hi fi stuff any more, so doing it didn't really affect my life at all. except that I didn't have stuff to jam with for a while.

Same rules apply in hi-fi audio as in guitars-n-amps: Buy good stuff clean and used, for a third off, or even half price.

You can re-sell, if needed, for about what you paid. Enjoy!

=K

Nah, it's better to have new and shiny with a warranty. ;)

@G-Man:

Merlin MXM's.

@Les:

I sold my '83 Birdseye B.C. Rich Eagle for top rated CD transport back 20 years ago.

The manufacturer committed suicide two months ago and I ended up losing over $6k because I was buying boats instead of finishing the speaker build. A guy I know lost the same amount on cables alone.

I sold a bunch of guitars many years ago when I had stopped playing. Alot of that money went toward a high-end surround sound system.

FWIW in my situation, I think it was a bad decision in retrospect. My old receiver is sitting in a basement corner, replaced long ago. As does the associated gear.

If I still had that gear (including a really nice 335, a Boogie combo, and <gulp> my first CU24) I'd be enjoying those quite a bit today. While I still enjoy music and movies, newer equipment is always cheaper, looks / sounds better etc.

I guess speakers might be an exception to that in some regards. But for me, I think it was a bad decision. Just my 2c...

Years ago I was in a band that needed PA equipment. So, I traded a mid-70's Strat (worth very little at the time) and a '64 Deluxe Reverb for some PA gear. As I remember, I got two monitor speakers, a 12 channel mixer, and a 400 watt power amp. Those items would be worth maybe $200 total now on the used market, and the guitar and amp would bring over $3000. So, for me, it was a stupid decision. Made worse by the fact that the band broke up 3 months after I got the PA gear. Lesson learned = keep good guitars and amps.

CBS Strat's were garbage. Got my "77@15 and have had the neck shimmed twice. I didn't notice the large gap at the side of the neck, but I did notice the cheap 9:1 ratio tuners.

I picked it up three weeks ago after not playing it for at least two years and while the design is the most comfortable ever, the neck vibrates like some sex toy's....I've seen......from a distance.
