Apologies for not being active on this forum during Covid, while others have been playing more especially when working from home, it's had the opposite effect on me. Been playing more music on my HiFi which is now overtaking my guitar hobby. Nevertheless, I've had more of an urge to play lately, hence this post.
I have two PRSi, a S2 Custom 24, (Sweetwater) and a CE24 in Vintage White top (Ish Guitars). Really like them both a lot. And I have a Fender Road Worn Telecaster with hard tweed case. Love the vintage vibe of this guitar. Also had some Gibsons; SG, Les Paul, 335 and some other Fender telecasters and strats. Sold them all to fund the PRS, no regrets.
Over the weekend I restrung my Tele - long overdue. There's a little buzzying on the D string, tried some adjustments, but it's still there, fairly minor. I also dressed the frets for better playability. But once done, I spent more time playing it. 7.25" radius, very little finish on the maple neck, etc. but I find it harder to play compared to my PRS. Like it's fighting me. Love the vibe, but less so the playability. So I might sell it, to fund something new. Might get around $800 or so, with the HSC.Maybe $700, the RW models aren't made anymore, and with a nitro finish on them, and very little (intentional) relicing, it might become sought after in the years ahead, maybe.
So I'd like to replace it with something, "similar". Something that is different enough from my CU24 and CE24. Mostly different pickups at least. The SE Starla comes to mind. Tell me more about the DS-02 pickups? I watched the demo on SW's site with Brian Ewald, and liked what I heard. I LOVE the split coil feature, and use it all the time on my S2 and CE. The Starla is a stop tail which is fine, but funny enough, when I play my PRS, and then the Tele, i find myself reaching for the tremolo bar which doesn't exist. Odd because before the PRSi, almost all of my other guitars didn't have tremolo's.
I thought about an S2 Vela as well. Pricier than what I might want to spend right now. Maybe someday. I really do like the S2 line a lot. The SE line, especially Indonesia built does concern me a bit. I also purchased an SE Mira not long ago, then traded it back to the dealer for the CE24. It was ok, but since I had the S2 already, it was redundant and just not as good. But the Starla, could be ticket.
TLDR: I have gas for something new, to replace a Tele, suggestions welcome, comments on the SE Starla especially welcome.
