Doing some recon for some possible time away on the Northwest Coast in the next few months; was wondering if anyone has knowledge of places to visit (music stores, restaurants, museums, libraries) in the Seattle area...?

Thanks in advance...

Do not skip Piroshky Piroshky at Pike Place Market - next to the original Starbucks (but skip the Starbucks). If you're lucky, the Salmon Pate' will still be warm. Plan to spend $25-$35 on many different piroshkys and try as many as you can manage. https://www.piroshkybakery.com/

If you're still hungry or have more time later, grab some Clam Chowder at Ivars and jump the ferry to Bainbridge Island for a beautiful out-and-back across Puget Sound.

If you are looking at the whole coast of the Pacific Northwest, see Portland, Astoria, the Columbia River gorge, and certainly go to down to Canon Beach, Oregon. If you feel like going north, the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor is cheap and a great way to see Orca pods. The Hoh Rainforrst on the Olympic Peninsula (near Quinault) is also worth your time.

I’ve never been there, but one stop I’ll make if I do get to Seattle is Emerald City Guitars. I’ve watched many videos they have put out on some incredible vintage instruments. 83 South Washington St.

If you go, let me know what you see there!

Museum of Pop Culture, formerly The Experience Music Project - a must-see for any musician, or music lover.

And of course, Jimi's simple grave site at Greenwood Cemetery in Renton (just outside Seattle.) Something magical/mystical about that spot.

Candidpicker, it depends on how much time you have, but if your just talking in the greater Seattle area, there is plenty.
All good advice above. For music stores there is:
.
The Guitar Store- PRS dealer
8300 Aurora Ave N
Seattle, WA 98103
.
Emerald City Guitars- vintage
83 South Washington St
Seattle, WA 98104
.
Restaurants
Ivars Acres of Clams in Seattle on the waterfront
1001 Alaskan Way
Seattle, WA 98101
.
Elliot's Oyster House
1201 Alaskan Way, pier 56
Seattle, WA 98101
.
Sights
Go up Queen Anne hill to Kerry Park
Great view of downtown Seattle with Mt. Rainier as a backdrop. Great for pictures.
.
As others have said
Pike Place Market
Between 2nd Ave and Western Ave
On Pike Street
.
Just a block or 2 away from the market is the waterfront. Lots of construction going on right now and parking is at a premium.
.
A little ways out from Seattle:
Jimi Hendrix grave site
350 Monroe Ave NE
Greenwood Memorial Park
Renton, WA 98056
.
Also kinda touristy trapish, but you could also check out Experience Music project (EMP) or Museum of pop culture (MoPOP) what they call it now.
410 Thomas St
Seattle, WA 98109
Seattle based museum with some good galleries including pop culture, cinema, sci-fi and of course music.
.
Weather is nice this week with clear blue skies and sunny, but temps in the low 40's, cold for Seattleites. Of course, it is customary to tell anyone thinking of coming to Seattle that it rains all the time, that way no one wants to visit or move here, but I think people are figuring out that we lie about that....a lot!

Good luck and have fun!

I was once in Seattle and had a whole day to kill with no plans. This was before smartphones and ubers and stuff. I caught the bus to downtown and spent about 6-7 hours just walking up and down and stopping when I saw anything interesting, which was a lot of the time. I went up the space needle, saw the fish market, saw a band playing in the middle of the day. If you're on your own, it's worth doing, and good exercise.

I haven't been in Decades. I lived in Tacoma and commuted to Bremerton while in the Navy. The only thing that stands out to me was Copachuk State park. Twenty yards in and it was night and Lord of the Rings. It was a fantastic place. I think I saw Jethro Tull in Seattle backed by a local band named Hammer. That was over 40 yrs ago, so....

What others have said already. I really don’t spend time in Seattle except at The Guitar Store - ask for Ted!

If you have multiple days and you are out in summer, Mt Rainier NP is a must see! Go to Paradise (south side). 3 hours from Seattle.

San Juan Islands are great. Ferry from Anacortes like Hanso said.

Further away, but Mt St Helens is nice to see - Johnston Ridge Observatory. 4-5 hours from Seattle though...

I Second Olympic National Park - Hurricane Ridge and Hoh Rain Forest. Don’t forget Sol Duc Hot Springs. WA coast is scenic, especially Cape Flattery.

Columbia River Gorge is a beautiful drive. Worth spending time on both WA and OR side.

Kopachuck :) But that’s a very impressive memory you have!

We’re in the process of moving to Gig Harbor which is where that park is located. By process I mean we’ve been trying to buy a house for 8 months now...crazy market!
