I hadn't seen the movie Airheads is a VERY long time but decided to watch it again recently. This time around I picked up on a lot of little details that I had missed previously.

One thing that tickled me was the part where the character Chazz had demanded a PRS Dragon. Later in the movie, he received that guitar but then could be seen smashing it while having a tantrum. Eventually the band found themselves in jail and putting on a show for their fellow inmates. But this time Chazz is playing a Fender Stratocaster. That's where I got a chuckle, thinking "Serves you right. You smashed a PRS guitar and now your punishment is to play a Strat." hahahha

He should have to play a Strat with a custom pickguard with a naked picture of Bea Arthur emblazoned upon it...whilst dining on cole slaw!!!

I always wondered if they really smashed the Dragon...

Fun movie.
I've read the 'dragon' was a copy, and the leftovers were floating around for sale for awhile...

Besides, ain't nothing wrong with a nice strat....

Aside from the trem that doesn't stay in tune, the awful control layout, ugly jack mount, weak pickups, and horrible neck heel, you're right.

Somewhere I read that the Dragon was just a sticker on the fretboard.

One of my PRS playing pals prefers a Strat when he's tinkering, because he can sit on the sofa with it - the front mounted jack doesn't dig into the sofa like a PRS or LP or even Tele...

Simple!

Sorry you haven't got to play a decent strat that's well set up....

It's pretty surprising that so many classic, huge hit songs played with these awful instruments ever got a listen... I mean, everyone agrees that David Gilmore sounds like sheet.....right? :flute:

I haven't watched that film in ages!! I need to revisit it.

As for the Strat debate personally I love them. I would pick one up over most other guitars on the market (PRS aside obviously). The trem bridges on them aren't great and yeah the standard pick ups aren't great for more meaty heavier stuff but over all I think they're fantastic.

Fender seems to be up and down on quality trem bridges. My Fender-Squier Mexi-strat (first year of production) has a trem that stays in tune quite well unless I totally abuse it. But the year they switched over to called that model a full Fender they changed the hardware, and the trem didn't stay in tune as well (in my experience and also have heard from others).

Or maybe as turboblues says, the trem itself is fine, it is randomly bad nuts causing the issue.

Yep, I use the angled cable tip.

My Strats stay in tune just fine, but I'm pretty light on the trem. And I don't need to make single coils be humbuckers. Just enjoy the way they sound. That's why we buy different guitars; to get different sounds. My only beef is that I have to mod Strats to put the bridge pup on the lower tone pot with the middle pup. It's a simple mod but I'd just do it from the factory. Why would you want to tame the middle pup but not the bridge (if you feel the need to tame them at all)?
