Just wondering if the community has an opinion on these? We know they've been discontinued and replaced with the triple pup NF models. Question: If you had the choice to buy either the 'vintage' or the newest model AND they were the around same price used(plus or minus a couple hundred bucks), which would you prefer? I do see one advantage with the 'vintage', you can easily swap pups.

Thanks for the feedback. Ciao'

I don't own either, but personally I would rather have the original model, if for no other reason than I could drop in any humbucker I wanted.

I love the original SAS models..mine take up a lot of room in my gaggle...do the original...with the toggle if possible, and push/pull, give you tons of easily accessible options at your fingertips! If you prefer a blade switch, that's cool too, but either way, get the older ones with two HBs...

I like the narrowfields, but prefer the original SAS. Personally, I fell in love with the McCarty neck pup and the swamp ash/bolt on combo. It made me feel just like Mark Knopfler...with three broken fingers on each hand, but still!

I have one of the originals and is a great guitar. It was my travel guitar for a number of years because it is so versatile.
I also have a guitar with 3 narrow fields and I like it for different reasons.
I would pick the original.

I'd look for a Swamp Ash Studio, with its traditional humbucker and two narrowfields.

It might be a little harder to find, but that way you get the best of both worlds - the NF neck and middle pickups are great, and you also get a traditional humbucker for the bridge pickup.

Some of those guitars has flame maple necks that were insanely good. Be played a few of them and really liked what I experienced.

Need to get my fingers wrapped around both of these versions to be 100% sure but, given my predisposition for the CE series, along with the desire for a PRS with a maple board... I'd go with the traditional version with the toggle selector. There's a lot more options available that way if you're initially bummed by the pickups.
