The Official "McCarty 594" Love Thread!!

Sorry, guys! It is a Google Photos sharing issue I haven't figured out yet, works for most people, but some have issues. For me today, it worked on my computer but not on my phone.

I will take a look later this week and see if I can fix it...

No dice on the PC either. Original post was from the ipad. I'm sure it's hotter than he77 though!

I might be getting one of these, haven't quite decided if I should go with one of the 26 or do a special build and have a rosewood neck (IRW).

I briefly had a MEQ and didn't like the tone of it -felt base heavy and a bit muddy (the neck felt great though). So now I'm wondering if it's the RW neck or the 53/10s that resulted in me not liking the tone. -comparison is my CU24 w 59/09
Any thoughts?

There's no doubt that an IRW neck brings out the lower midrange. I've had several.

For some folks that's "awesome low end," and for others that's "mud."

I had an SC58 with a mahogany neck and 53/10s and didn't think it was muddy at all. So...

At some point I want to order a 594, but I'll order with a mahogany neck, because I honestly prefer it, it's part of that "classic" tone I love. My thinking with this model is that they went for a particular tone, achieved it, and it sounds great. Not a formula I'd mess with. ;)

Cool! I bet that doesn't last long...

I'm really curious about the demand for these guitars will be. There's certainly some excitement here about the new model and I personally love the concept. How about the rest of the world?

Ended up getting one, picked it up this evening. All I can say is wow! Such an amazing guitar -super top, love the new neck shape -deeper than pattern, the sounds are super. Sun's set so I've not been able to get any photos that do it justice but here are a couple:

Fan-freakin'-tastic! Clips now needed. ;)

Nice. I'm looking forward to a complete tone report.

SEXY!!! How do you like the new bridge? Are the volumes wired like a DGT????? DROOL!!!!

Congrats, great looking guitar! Can´t wait for a tone report.

SEXY!!! How do you like the new bridge? Are the volumes wired like a DGT????? DROOL!!!!
Never tried a DGT but in the middle position the lower setting of the two is what decides the volume, so 0 in one and 10 in the other = 0

Love the bridge, have realised over time that I prefer a stoptail over trem and I think the two piece makes perfect sense (am used to my Les Paul). Plus they totally nailed the colour scheme on this one -goes so well with the knobs.

I wonder if that's a prototype?

It is a prototype that has been around for a while, had some wear and tear.

Eric and I got some time to play it acoustically, but not through an amp.

(That being said, Eric had already played mine through an amp the previous day, and had STELLAR praise for the tone!)

My thoughts on this model so far from fondling it extensively yesterday:

  • I *LOVE* the 24.594" scale. Even more so than the 245 scale, for some reason it feels perfect. (And I did not learn on a "shorter scale" guitar, but I have played primarily the short scale PRS for the past 7 years.)
  • The Pattern Vintage Carve is awesome, feels great. Pattern nut width, beefier on the top half. You can totally feel it right away, especially for me, being really used to Pattern Necks. Felt awesome and brought a smile to my face!
  • Frets are MSC Frets, the DGT frets worn down a bit or whatever. They feel great.
  • Switch on the upper horn feels very intuitive, and I am used to it visually already as well. I dig it!

We had dinner with Paul and the crew later, he was very proud of what they were accomplishing with this guitar, all the little things they do to make their instruments great, and to continue to improve them. I gathered from the discussion that the key couple of things of this incrementally were the improvements to the tuner design, and the 58/15 "LT" pickups.

(Apologies again for anyone that cannot see the photos, again it is an issue with Google Photos I can't seem to figure out. I will post a link to an album tomorrow for photos posted in the thread.)

Killer piece, congrats!! Killer top and vintage vibe.

You beat me to it! ;) I would have had mine yesterday if I wasn't traveling this week. I will likely get mine Friday.

Weird. Today's pics I can see, but I still can't see the earlier ones. Oh well.

OK. Your Treble Pickup VOL pot is the gatekeeper then, as your wiring is in SERIES. DGT pickups and associated VOL pots are wired in PARALLEL to the output, so you can trim either as you like. Thanks for the report!

I was at Eddie's today. ;)

Mysterious response! ;)

...aaannnd?

Thoughts?

I am not usually a huge fan of Chevron tops, but wow, that one is killer! I think that is the one from the blog that Kevin commented on earlier in this thread...
