...the more they stay the same. Isn't that the old adage?

Last night I found a stash of old studio pictures, some of which I posted in another thread, but this one popped up as well. It's the first Singlecut PRS, that I bought the moment I found out PRS was releasing the model in 2000. I guess I my tastes haven't changed much since they were first introduced fifteen years ago. The 2000 version I had:

And my current one, a.k.a. The Hammer Of The Gods:

The 2000 was a fantastic guitar, too. I stupidly sold it, as per my usual M.O., but it strikes me that they sure look a lot alike in those variations of McCarty Burst, don't they? The lighting accounts for a lot of the apparent difference in the colors in the photos.

And I gotta say...the moons on the 2000 model look GREAT. :top:

It appears you have always had a fine taste in guitars, Les. Rock On!

What explains the variation in bridge and stoptail design? Put another way what is the advantage of the newer design?

I never felt comfortable on a Les Paul but I would sure love to try a 25 inch scale single cut. Both your SC s look great.

Both gorgeous, Les...the top on the Hammer is killer, especially with that color! It brings out the flame all the way go the edges.
and June in Philly...be neat to see Circumstances, or Beneath,Between, Behind...

The tone's a little different. Whether that's an advantage or not is of course a matter of taste.

With the two piece bridge, the strings' vibration is transferred to the guitar body in 4 places, and with the one piece it's transferred in two places. Both are really great, with the two piece having more of a traditional tone. But part of the difference is also accounted for by the difference in scale length. The 2000 model had a 25 inch scale length, the 2014 model has a 24.5.

The 2000 also had the No. 7 pickups, the new one has specially wound 57/08s on the McCarty Singlecut. And the new one has a thicker body, also part of the McCarty Singlecut design. So it's hard to compare them. Well, it's also hard for me to compare them because the 2000 was traded on something maybe ten years ago. ;)

I like the two piece bridge a lot, and have posted about it in the past.

I love love LOVE the hammer....but the moons on the singlecut really make that guitar...

Don't they?

Just kind of understated, classy, traditional. That particular one was very lively feeling, with a beautiful biting tone that many SCs didn't have. It was a good 'un.

My Hammer of the Gods IS a 2000.

Some great looking guitars in this thread! Also like AP515's Fender Deluxe amp (I have had one for over 7 years now - a great amp)

You both have a fine taste in guitars, whatever the Circumstances may be.

I think pretty well all of us here at the PRS Forum have fine taste in guitars - otherwise we'd be elsewhere.

Gah, this thread now has me gassing for a core model Single Cut, either 25" scale or 24.5". Maybe one of each? I know, I'll make one a P245...

Sigh, maybe next year...I have barely played my new P24!

Some guitar models just look right with moons. Nothing against birds, we all love 'em. To me, especially the McCarty and variants, like the DGT. I wouldn't kick a DGT wi birds out of bed, but I love mine with moons. Maybe I should have one of each?

*crap*

and one with no inlay - I got mine DGT with a blank fingerboard, just because.

I wound't have been able to say that...the different bit...about a guitar I didn't have any more. I just don't listen close enough. I can barely compare a guitar I played last week to one I play today.

I've compared the bridges side by side in a store, and of course that helps!

But certain tones do stick in my head very strongly. They probably do for everyone in some ways. Think of the "Kerranggg" of the opening chord to The Beatles' Hard Day's Night. I mean, that's a totally recognizable sound, and even if you don't hear the record for years, if a band plays it you know instantly not only the song, but whether they got the tone right.

Anyway, I find the two-piece bridge has more of that "bark" that an LP has, that particular resonance, etc.
