The holy trinity...

I consider my 3 PRS guitars the 'holy trinity' because these 3 are, for me, the 3 guitars that give me virtually the full gamut of options for the type of music I like and want to play.

First up is my 2016 PRS McCarty 594. This is my 'Vintage Les Paul' type guitar giving me the classic LP type tones with all the modern hardware and options to coil-split too. The neck carve is just perfect too and its such a joy to play too. I love the sound of the pick-ups too...

Next is my 2017 PRS 509. This is my 'super-strat' giving me the tele/strat tones. I could of gone with a 'Silver Sky' I guess but I have never liked the Fender style body shape or the 'pick guards'. I also like to see the wood on guitars - not a solid 'paint' - so the 509 my preferred option. Its a very versatile guitar too...

Finally, my 2018 PRS Custom 24. The traditional PRS that sits in the middle of these two. A guitar I have wanted since the mid/late 80's. Such a beautiful and iconic guitar that plays beautifully too...

This is my 'Holy Trinity' of guitars - What's yours and why?

My Holy Trinity has become the Fantastic 4 with the addition of a PRS Hollowbody II with Piezo and a one piece Maple top/back - obviously in Fire Red Burst... :D:D:D

iRJZWZk.jpg

All four offer something different with the 'new' addition to my PRS Family offering a Piezo for more acoustic 'chime' and can be blended with the 58/15 LT's too. I know that's 'similar' to my PRS 594 in terms of PU's but the Hollow Body brings something different to the tone. It's also lighter and more resonant too...

I’m less about the Trinity and more about a Yin/Yang sort of thing between my McCarty and Custom 24. Between those two guitars I have most of my needs covered.

Custom 24 does modern and versatile for me. The lead tone I get out of this thing is smooth like glass and brilliant without ever being harsh.

I was a little bit hesitant about them at first because I felt the neck pickup was in the wrong spot, but after playing one for awhile I now think it’s in exactly the right spot. I play a lot of lead on this guitar and appreciate the clearer, more articulate neck tone. It’s more modern clean tone is a good compliment/alternative to the McCarty’s more bassy/scooped clean tone.

McCarty does old school for me. If the Cu24 is a Super-Strat then the McCarty is my Super Les Paul. It gets me the sounds and the vibe I’m looking for with significant better ergonomics and intonation. Quite frankly, I can do **** on this guitar that I can’t do on my LP and it serves as proof that money could actually buy me more talent.

Interestingly, it’s also the best sounding Strat I’ve ever owned and I spend a lot more time than I would’ve thought in single coil mode. I love this guitar.

The trinity guitar for me is the CE22. The Dragon pickups go places the other two guitars can’t reach. I hesitate to call it a holy trinity because this guitar is pretty specialist. Sometimes I think about installing more versatile pickups but the harmonics the Dragon bridge spits out are addicting, even if they do limit the functionality of the guitar.

Honestly, I think the holy trinity for me would be a second Custom 24 with hot but versatile pickups in it. Something that absolutely screams in a way the 85/15s can’t, without pigeonholeing me in the way the Dragons do.

I have own my guitars kinda like a "holy trinity" philosophy. I have what i call "Style Slots" for what i'm doing and with my capabilities. I frequent the studio recording tracks for clients and that could be anything. Also play in a metal band, punk band, christian group for live stuff. I've sifted through ALOT of guitars just buying and owning different kinds...I did NOT bias towards PRS but it ended up that they were the winning type of guitar for me in that slot.

1. Soloist and Live Metal/Punk - PRS CU24 floyd
2. Main Studio and Live Metal/Punk - PRS 594
3. Studio Cleans and Live christian Music - PRS CU24
4. Gluttony and stratty stuff cuz i'm alone in my practice room (and sometimes a quick studio grab for Indy/soft jazzy stuff) - PRS Silver Sky

Owning these 4 guitars i feel i do not "NEED" another. I do however entertain thoughts of a 509......it never ends lol.

HB II with piezo
Rick 650 with a coil bleed

If I had to make it all PRS some shopping would be needed, maybe a Custom 24-08.

I only have five right now, and two of them are of the Custom 24 variant, but right now, I'm having a lot of fun with these three...

I know I originally started this thread as a 'trinity' of the 3 guitars that would cover the most tonal variation, the 3 guitars to give you the widest scope for playing any music that you play. In my original post, that meant my 594 for all the vintage Les Paul type tunes with the 509 being the Single Coil Strat/Tele guitar. My Custom 24 was for all the more modern rock/metal as it has higher output PU's and the Trem too - I know the 509 has a trem but I was counting that for as a Strat type model and, like strats, has a trem too. I guess I could have gone with a Cu24 Floyd for the more modern rock & Metal but I felt that this style of trem would be less intimidating... :D

The only thing missing really was a hollowbody and/or Piezo. Izzy Stradlin made hollowbody guitars work in Rock so I wasn't thinking of Jazz or old blues when I bought my HBii - and won't be thinking that if/when I add a 594 HBii to the collection either.

Now I have my HBii though, its incredibly difficult for me to decide which 3, if I had to narrow it down, would give me the best range to cover any situation. I now understand how difficult that is. At the time I started this, I thought that picking 3 would be a lot easier as most people ask what would be the 'one' guitar, that hypothetical desert island (with an electrical supply) guitar. Instead of being limited to just one, picking 3 should be easy...

Trying to decide which guitar, if any, my HBii could replace if I had to narrow it down is very difficult. The closest is perhaps the 594 - same PU's but the HBii is hollow and has a Piezo whilst the 594 is solid and offers coil splitting for more versatility. Would it then replace the Cu24 which is a double humbucker guitar with just a 5way - but also has 24 frets and different PU's - more different sounding. It can't replace the 509 as that is 'unique' and the only guitar with a more tele/stratty sound - point is, I can make a valid case for every one of the 4 as to why it should be one of the 3. I guess if really pushed, I would think my HBii would replace my 594 in the trinity - just because the HBii offers more with the hollowbody tones and of course the Acoustic type Piezo tone too - thus replacing any actual acoustic. Between this the 509 and Cu24, I could cover a lot of what the 594 would be included for....

If/when I do get my 594 HBii, I would think that could very easily be interchangeable with the Solid 594. In a lot of ways, the 594 HBii is much more of an 'indulgence' - A guitar that I (almost) don't need and more just want. Between my current 594 and HBii, the Hollowbody 594 doesn't seem to add much to my range of choices. Only the 'split' coil options add something my HBii doesn't offer - basically 5 different tonal options but the HBii adds the Piezo. That's why I do think the 594 HBii would be a self indulgent (more so than any of the others which can be argued as self indulgent LOL), something I don't 'need' for any particular song, sound etc that my current range already covers. Its not a guitar that I can 'justify' its inclusion in my collection as much as I can the rest if that makes sense.

I only have 4 electrics and an Acoustic and can totally see why others have struggled to pick just 3 as their 'Holy Trinity' - the 3 guitars that can cover anything they may need tonally. At the very least though, if people get to post their '3' guitar pictures, I get to look at some awesome guitars in their collections... :D

I wanna have sex with that Mc594!

Crazy finish! Love it!

I’m going to try and follow instructions here...so I’ll exclude my two favorite PRSi...but I couldn’t get down to 3...so...here’s my 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse.

(I picked one without mini-toggles...so you guys won’t think I have a problem)

I'll take the blue one and the Santana
Well, if it HAD to be reduced to three, and all of the PRS persuasion.....

PS "Les Paul Killer" custom order with 1 piece quilted top, 408 switching of 59/09s AND piezo
PS DGT with Pernambuco neck
AP 513

The near twin of "Hammer of the Gods" just misses the cut, but only because of the OTHER Singlecut....

I want all of those
Alright, I can live with that.....the ME II and Dirty 100 feel left out though.

Here's mine!

I want the Santana and the SC please

I will adopt all of your children!

Want to cover a lot of ground? Piezo, tremolo, and different pups.

Ok, you win. But, you also won't be needing those as I'll be taking them all. Holy chit, those finishes!

Ok, now that I'm caught up (and you bastards have me GASing pretty fucking hard:p)...

Ultimate tonal holy Trinity?

Tremonti Concept quilt top, emerald burst

PS Mc594SC murder black, blood red hardware, Ebony board, blood red inlays
\m/etal bridge
59/09 neck

Core Cu24 with 594 controls. A guitar is next to useless if I don't have the high 3 way toggle, and 4 knobs.
Again, quilt top but with a deep Caribbean sea blue. PRS quilt tops with blue finishes look t!ts AF:D

And because I can't count

Ebony 1970 Gib SG Custom modded with white pick guard and 2 of whatever the hell pickups Angus uses. Clone of the Back In Black guitar:eek:

And a cream white Les Paul custom with a fat black bullseye and get rid of the EMGs

I want that single cut! Also love that black and blue and purple finish. Little green in there, too, eh? Love it!

Yeah, it's a special Singlecut, at least to me. Was part of the McCarty Singlecut PS run that a number of really good artists, like Tim Pierce and a few others, glommed onto.

I got lucky to find one, and obviously, have no artistic justification for owning it, but WTF, it ain't about deserve. ;)

I really love it. Been my #1 since it arrived in 2014. The Northern Lights guitar is incredible to play, and sounds wonderful, too. It's my other #1. Hell, they're all my #1s. I'm a sick man.
