I am talking some of your favorite rock bands, not metal or pop. List as many or as few as you like. I know there are a lot of great ones and we all like what we like so this should be fun.

These bands below changed the music game on some level IMO.

Van Halen
AC/DC
Cheap Trick
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Queen
Bon Jovi

Well, I guess being older than most here has me listing these that not only changed music, but originated that rocked out blues sound that formerly was acoustic.

Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Yardbirds all have to be here
Cream - highly amped electrified blues turns psychedelic
Jeff Beck - If you've never listened to the album "Truth" get it right away - British blues at it's best, with Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass
Humble Pie - Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton & the boys rocking' it all over
Jethro Tull - Anderson's maniacal flute and Barre's lyrical leads
Pink Floyd - they stretch the fabric of space & time with a sonic palette
U2 - if Stones are the best R&R band of all time, these guys gotta be #2
ZZ Top - Texas boogie blues supreme
AC/DC - Warning - - - High Voltage!!
REO Speedwagon - when Richrath rocked that Gibson hard, before their syrup pop era that came later
Tom Petty & the Heartbrakers- arguably America's best R&R band
Green Day - I know, maybe too punk for some, but American Idiot stayed in my CD turntable for over 5 months. Lots of great songs before & since
James Gang and all iterations of Joe Walsh - shouldn't even have to say anything here, it's just understood
Pat Benatar - Awesome as is, but toss in Neil Geraldo on guitar? Yeah, all day long
Stevie Ray Vaughn - damn that helicopter, man, a f#@king crying shame - a stellar bluesman finally making it big time and making $ at it

Okay, this should scratch the surface.

Jimi Hendrix and some Experience did special work (at least what I have heard - fav album "Nine To The Universe" just because it was so raw but that was not an "Experience" album but instead a posthumous mish mash of leftovers)!

King Crimson made me look at music quite differently!

The Allman Brothers have usually held my attention for a songs length (even more from time to time)!

T. Rex has banged a few gongs that I was willing to tolerate!

Mott The Hoople (and most of what Ian Hunter did with Mick Ronson) passes my muster for listenable!

Patti Smith and her Group(ies) has entertained me for decades!

Not sure if Gabriel era Genesis counts under this definition of "Rock" but if King Crimson can be here, so can they!

I just saw Phish ROCK Alpine Valley a few weeks ago!

I think Porno For Pyros is the best Perry Farrell work out there!

The Velvet Underground has been known to have influenced more band launches than they had in record sales!

Have you guys heard of that 3 piece from up north? I think they are called Rush!

David Bowie (Mick Ronson era Bowie) was some of the best Rock ever created!

And of course, that cat named Zappa had some "Rock" going on in his outfit on occasion!

I second the motion on many of the suggestions above, but tried not to repeat any!

My top five never changes.
Iron Maiden
Rush
Wishbone Ash
Heart
Boston
After that the others come and go depending on my current listening/ playing pattern. Right now I’m listening to Bela Fleck. Bluegrass is awesome!
I do have a theory though. If someone can list there say there top five bands I would say you could guess there age within two or three years. It appears we really fine tune our music appreciation between say 17-20 years old. Now of course there are examples of other music taste that don’t match my theory but it’s just food for thought.

blind faith, traffic, jefferson airplane, csny and their different iterations, ccr, janis, the dead, the doors, skynard, trower, jeff beck, jethro tull, to name a few. guess you can tell about how old this old fart is.

Yep, you're old.

:D

(Ian Anderson was born on the same day I was.)

16 posts and no Ozzy???:eek::eek::eek:

Van Halen
Ozzy Osbourne
- the two greatest hard rock bands ever!

Rush (I guess we’re allowing prog)
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Uriah Heep
Scorpions (metal?)
Boston
Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Kansas
Yes
Mahogany Rush

And I know what the rules said, but not best rock bands list can leave off Black Sabbath!

(And Megadeth and Metallica in that order!)
