The first Production PRS Bass ever made. Serial number 0001.

Interesting piece of PRS history from 1986. The first production PRS Bass. Owned by former employee, Larry Melton. I wonder if Paul personally built it? Was he still a hands on luthier in 1986?

Even better, Larry gigged with it. It wasn't just a wall decoration.

18k yeah, I'll fish that spare change out of my pockets. :D Still, its nice to see the first production bass and I saved the photos. The headstock photo with 6 9 0001 is so cool. 6 for 1986 and 9 for a bass. Awesome.

I'm not connected with this sale. At this price its a fantasy dream purchase that few could ever afford. I thought the Forum would be interested in the PRS history.

Wow, thats awesome.

This might be the earliest fade finish I've seen from PRS - any of you more knowledgable vintage guys care to comment?

The listing claims it is the first fade finish.
It has been in Larry's possession since 1986. He Picked out the woods, including the brazilian fingerboard, bookmatched the guitar and it was finished in the very first custom color scheme. This was actually the first fade finish ever made on a PRS also, Joe Knaggs now calls this finish "Wickedburst"
