Had a chance to get these 2 out and do a little comparo today. This was just for finding similarities and differences. I am new to this body style after having my CU22 since '95. One thing for sure is that the Retro is a bit thinner, like 1/4" in the body's thickest part. Neck carves are similar. A few of the little carved spots are slightly different. I know I'm preaching to the choir on this stuff. Anyway:

Yowza!

I'm surprised--isn't the Santana (in this case, the Retro) already about as thick as the singlecut trem models? That would make it pretty thick... So then, is the Golden Eagle more like the 594 Singlecut thickness? I'm guessing it ain't a lightweight guitar.

OP tell me about the guitar in the background ...looks Santana ish but 22 frets maybe?? With the natural back?? OT I know....lol

veinbuster tells no lies, Artisan Master #29. A 20th anniversary gift from my wife. Hard to believe that guitar is already 20 years old!

Funny fact about that guitar. When I was specing it with Ron I asked for Warmoth's Fatback profile, +10%. That blew his mind. I told him I didn't mis-speak, I like BIG necks! He saw a pic later of my band at the time and it was a good view of my hands and the neck, and then he understood LOL.

22 frets
Thick cut one piece black limba body
Black limba neck
BRW fingerboard, 10" radius
Rear inlays hand done by "Pops" (RIP)
5a quilted maple top
Tanzanite Blue finish (looks black in pics with low light)
Paw print inlays
Rio Grande Texas & BBQ pups
And get this: PRS 5-way rotary, which gave Ron fits but he got it right

If you had to pick only one, which would it be? (Sophie’s choice, I know…..) 🤔
