And here's his book about those times...

The Doors were so far advanced and ahead of their time...I saw them August 18,1967 at the Alexandria Roller Rink, Alexandria, Virginia, when "Light My Fire" was a gigantic hit song...I mean massive. You couldn't go a hour on AM Radio without hearing it...After this concert they went on to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show.

somewhere around 1989, I got invited to a local bar in Northridge California to see Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarik they said they were going to play one set. but at the same time they were announcing they were putting together the original doors movie. And their main announcement was that they were looking for the right person to play Jim Morrison. They said certainly some big actors will try for the part but they said they wanted to make sure that lots of people have the opportunity to demonstrate the kind of creative wild man personality that he was.
it was a very fun evening, very small club 20 tables Sherman Way if I recall. they were sitting at the tables with us, then got up on stage and started playing supercool.
I just remember that it took them forever to finally release the movie and Val Kilmer did a faantastiic job of going crazy.
