I’d really love a less ornate version of the Rosewood Ltd. flowers. Kinda along the lines of those 70’s(?) Gibson Artisan LP’s with the banjo inlays. I think it’d be a nice change of pace, and if they were positioned in a “regular” inlay formation, still visually useful for knowing where you’re at on the fretboard. I wonder how much of a CNC upcharge it is to just “erase” stuff?
As I recall it's little or no charge. I had the 20th anniversary pattern altered by having it begin on the 7th fret:
I know PRS just did a few block inlays with birds cut out. As seen above. Instead of blocks, I was thinking of a MoP trapezoid with small (silver sky small) paua birds inlaid inside the trapezoids. Not sure PRS is ready for trapezoids but there’s not much harm in asking.
One of my all time favs! I’ve seen a lot of variation in Bahama Blue, but this is the standard by which all others are judged.
Here we go - thought there had been something on inlay materials recently. I think its more a case of what hasn't been used.
Pink heart abalone birds and signature on a Brazilian rosewood board and headstock veneer. "Brazilian" in green ripple abalone. (2004 CU22 limited run Brazilian)
Moons from a couple of guitars I've owned. The early moons were a mix of abalone and mother of pearl (I think the MOP is the pale crescent, the abalone the iridescent top). 1985 Custom 1985 Guitar / pre-Standard
I just got a 2015 SC245 last night and it seems to have a different material for the inner part vs the outer part of the birds. I was having trouble finding the original spec page for the 2015 SC245. Just curious if this might be some sort of upgrade or if it's just BAU. I'll have to check the modcat next time I do a string change. I'll try to remember to post pics sometime, but I'm terribly forgetful.
