I completely agree with every word.It depends upon the wood. While I’d choose natural as a gun to the head default “color”, if I’m going to paint it, my choice would change for fiddleback vrs quilt, vrs burl Maple. Also, who’s going to paint ziracote, macassar ebony, or cocobolo?
It's kind of an irresistible version of the finish, for sure, though I confess it was luck of the draw. I'm also a huge fan of classic colors like McCarty burst. One of my favorites lately in the Private Stock realm has been McCarty glow. There are some incredible looking pieces with that finish out there.
