I’m a long-time 513 devotee, and still use my two ‘07 Brazilian models as my main performing guitars. I also enjoy playing my Gibsons, and wondered if I could get some old LP mojo with that perfect PRS feel and playability. I was actually looking at SC245s when I started reading about the McCarty 594. At first, I thought it was the regular McCarty model, but further research showed that to be untrue. I listened to everything I could find, consulted with some trusted players, and it sounded like this was the way. The search for a right guitar/right price match was under way!

I found a killer Artist Package guitar at a price I could live through (thanks Keenan!), and took the plunge. The guitar arrived, and was a stunning sight in the nice Artist case, but how would it play and sound? Getting right to the point, the great LP I have is back in its case and I haven’t stopped playing the 594 since. It’s a masterpiece. Thank you, PRS!!

Absolutely stunning! Does it sound as good as the Lester?
It’s different. The LP has Burstbucker Pro pickups that sound a bit hotter to me. What I was hoping for, and found, in this 594 was pickups to match my old 1972 SG Standard that has the T-Top pickups of that era. They are among the few pickups I can use all pickup positions and still have some clarity when pushing the amp hard. The 594 nails that! Full, round, and articulate. I really, really like these 58/15 LT pickups.

So, the Les Paul sounds great. The 513s are safe, they cover so much ground, play awesomely nice, and have been the center ground I always return to after wandering. But this one has earned a home for bringing back that genuine Gibson tone from my formative years. It’s sort out-Les-Pauled the Les Paul!

Congrats! Dig the wild curl figure on that top and your description of the tone relative to the classic LP sound. 594s rule and that Pattern Vintage neck carve is so good I had the PS team put it on my P245T build (avatar).

I had a 63 SG when I was young. I always liked the sound of it and and how it played.
I'm waiting on the TCI treatment for the 594 SC. I have a 98 McCarty and I want a more different sound this time around.
That really is a lovely guitar regardless of how it sounds.

That’s a beautiful custom you have there!

Yes, the neck carve is a perfect in between the pattern and those huge old Gibson necks. I have an SG-J that has one of those and I don’t get along with it well. The 594 feels bigger than the slimmer standard neck, but still plays comfortably. I didn’t really notice it until I picked up my 513 and it felt really speedy all of a sudden. Another of those “little things” Paul is always talking about!

What a beautiful guitar!

I love my 594s. Like you, I had an SG I started on, a ‘65. Still have it, but only for nostalgia. I only play my PRS’.
Hang on to that SG! I sold my original 72 that I paid $400 for back in 76-77, and regretted it ever since. I finally found another that played like it and had to have it... at $1600 more than the original! What a dope. :)
