"Tuck and roll, Steve, tuck and roll!"

I never closely inspected my birds on my 247.. oh well, I can laugh now...

It's a bird...it's a plane...no! It's Superman!

Insert picture of Superman here. I'm too lazy to track one down.

I have that inlay on my 1986 Custom. I puzzled over it for a bit, and if I remember right it is a little more distinct than the one you show, but...

I interpret it as a falcon stooping (swooping down on prey): in this picture, wingtips are at the top, head is at lower left, looking down, tail at lower right, talons between those two.

For awhile my brain tried to make it a roosting owl. Ears on top.

I like the batman idea.

Um...yeah, it kinda vaguely resembles the headstock bird inlay, but no, it's the bird inlay second closest to the bridge. So it's supposed to be facing an entirely different direction. Hence the "tuck and roll" comment.

If it's any consolation -- I was in a store yesterday, and the 24/7 they had had the exact same misshapen inlays. I took a picture, but it's not uploading to imgur right now...I'll post it later. The bridge-most is also pretty bad.

And don't get me wrong -- I love my 24/7, this does not devalue it in any way. On the contrary, the entertainment factor just went up a notch.
