Well, today was my 45th birthday. Needless to say, I went out for a few beer, so ...

Couple of things to be thankful for ...
I don't have the "middle age spread". at least not yet.
I have really long hair and don't have the dreaded "bald spot". Again, at least not yet.

When I was in my early teens, I was into playing sports ... football, hockey, baseball so I kept my hair pretty short.
Along about 17, I started to grow my hair and I remember this conversation with my Dad.
dad ... "what's goin' on with your hair".
me ... "thinkin' about growin' it long"
dad ... "about f@ckin' time".

been long ever since.

Happy birthday!
(From a guy not much older than you who needs to find a a completely different list of things to be thankful for. ;))

Happy birthday dude. My pops passed when I was 18. I grew my hair long after that (our conversation would have been quite different), permed and blonde hi lights to boot...it was the 80s!

congrats on another bday!!!

Well I turned 45 yesterday and i too have held back the spread of my body, but man it is a struggle. I too have always been active in sports and still run and ride my bike. But in the hair department the dreaded bald spot started to show at 44. It has been a slow progress in my case so not too concerned. Life and its turns. I have always kept my hair short so i can't really say when it started. I just know as a youth I was able to rock the high top with a fade like kid from kid and play!!! Cheer and happy bday!!!!

Happy birthday! I'm about 19 years older than you.

The bald spot started on me about 4-5 years ago. Can't be stopped. Hair is thin now, too.

Growing older is what it is. Beats the alternative!

Happy Birthday to you both!

I'll be 47 in two months. Still hit the weights on the regular. Not quite the 300 club any more but still better than a lot of youngsters!

When my hair started to fade a decade ago I did the right thing and shaved it.

Happy Birthday Guys!

Mine couldn't be called a 'middle aged spread'; it started as a child and just kept going.

My hair is (thankfully) full all over my head. Dark brown and long enough that I can sit on it. When I was a little boy, my dad made me get a haircut every month. And until I got into Junior High School, that haircut had to be a flattop. My dad always gave me that crap about 'That's how the football players wear it, so that's how you're wearin' it'. He was giving me the lecture one Sunday while we were watching football on the tube, and he came out with that line. Being the fool I was, I said 'Really? What about Joe Namath? I don't see him with a stupid flattop!'. SERIOUS MISTAKE!

The next day I went for a haircut and did my best to lay low for a few days...

Thanks guys. Hey, we all get old and have no control over our genetics.
Nothing against guys that this happens to, I would just shave my head.

My dad was a fabulous guitarist. Played in bands (some every well known) as a "hired gun" and later in life, all different permutations.
I'm like the inverse of my dad. He was a way better guitarist than me (acoustic and electric), loved country, played banjo, mandolin and dobro.
Well, except that I could play fingerstyle a lot better. Also play a better banjo.

He passed at 69. Came of age in the sixties.
He and my mom met at the original Woodstock.
Then he went to Vietnam for three years.
After that it was rock 'n roll. My parents had a very different worldview than most.

That sucks man. I had my parents around for a long time, but not long enough. Mom passed at 65, Dad at 69. Hurts.

Big Hair Days ... gotta love it.
A lot of classic songs and incredible guitar from that era.

Been 30 years since my dad passed at 64. The hurt never really goes away, you just bury it a little lower as time goes by. Lost mom 5 years ago at 84. That was a good long life. Doesn't hurt as much.

My dad said: "Son, live by the real estate slogan......'Get a lot while you're young.'"

That was a looooooong time ago.
