A recent back injury has me looking at light weight guitars and I'm giving the Santana signature model a second look. The PRS web site doesn't tell me alot about the guitar so I'm interested in hearing from those who have actually experienced this core line model up close and personal. What do you like or dislike? What can the guitar do (besides play Santana songs) or not do? How do you like the really short scale length combined with the extra frets all packed closely to each other? Describe the pickups as compared to other PRS models of pickup. Thanks in advance.

The really in-depth description from the PRS web site:
2014 Santana Signature
"The Santana model comes standard with a maple top, mahogany back, rosewood fretboard, 24 fret mahogany neck, 24 1/2” scale length, PRS tremolo, V12 finish and a Pattern neck."

I can't comment on the pickups seeing as though I have a KL33 but... The Santana/West St. platform is quickly becoming my favorite! The neck carve is huge, but very comfortable, the scale length makes bends easy-breezy and doesn't feel too cramped unless you've got fat fingers, and the guitar balances a little different 'cause it has quite a bit more "ass" than the normal PRS shape.

They're a whole different "thing" from the regular PRS line, but in a great way.

I like them, too. One nice thing about the short scale length combined with a trem is that bends are fluid, and the neck feels right for anyone who's played Gibsons for any length of time.

The one's I've played were really great guitars. I haven't owned one. Yet. ;)

I really like mine. I've lost track of what pickups are in it, so can't help you with that.
It is a very playable guitar - I liked it enough that I built private stock on the model taking some liberties with the electronics.
The scale is perfect for me and I don't find it makes the upper frets problematic - I really don't feel a difference between playing it an my CU24.

If it feels good in your hands go for it. You can play anything you want on it.
