Tell me about a 2000 McCarty

I’ve been heavily deliberating on a new guitar and been scanning a lot of options. I really dig my ‘19 CE 24 (and been loving the wide thin neck profile a lot) so that was kind of leaning me in the direction of grabbing an older core ce24 with the way people talk about them in comparison.

The s2 McCarty thinline has also been attractive to me because I have an s2 sc 594 that I love the crap out of


However, I’ve come come across a 2000 McCarty at a pretty nutty price. It does have a lot of scars but I’m cool with that sort of thing and I’d say the price easily reflects that…

What are peoples thoughts on McCartys from this year? Obviously it’s going to differ from my s2 594 in several ways. It does seem like overall it would probably be pretty similar to my 2000 custom 22? From what I can gather, body thickness, tuners, and pickups would be the only real differences? Neck profile the same? What pickups were coming in McCartys in 2000?

My 2001 McRosie has a wide fat rosewood neck, and is an excellent player.
It came with original "McCarty" pickups which I recently swapped out for 58/15 LT.
Great guitar.

What in particular did you dislike about the McCarty pickups?

My first PRS which I LOVE is an 01 McSoapy , I got a 04 rosewood neck version as well .
There's a plain one on the 'verb for a very good price.

As far as the PAF style ones .. the Pickups where 8k neck /9K bridge similar to a DGT ..( 7.3n/ 9K) I went the DGT rout which of course is a McCartry mutant.

I have 3 custom 22 variants , the thinner body is a bit more comfy , but the thicker bodies are tone monsters.

Not really dislike, but thought they were a "tad" darker. Not a bad thing.

You are the second potential buyer in two days asking about a specific guitar and than missing out because it was sniped by another buyer.

What in particular did you dislike about the McCarty pickups?

I have a 2000 McCarty as well and I swapped stock pickups out too.

When I got it I was playing with more gain and didn't like the bridge pickup.

It has had a lot of different PUs over the years but a few months ago I put a set of 5815LT in it plus I bought an HDRX20, now this guitar is dang near perfect.

I got locking klusons from Mann, I'm just a locking tuner kind of guy. Put an adjustable bridge on it when I had it tuned lower but have some non adjustable with brass insert bridges in my parts drawer and have considered putting one of those on it.

I like the wide fat neck.

eyeing a couple other 2000s mccartys and older CE24s


I dig the price on this one but I’m not sure if I’d be able to bring myself to love that color/top. The black and read looks kinda tacky to me too, but I’m sure it’s a lovely guitar (won’t be mad if someone snipes this one lol). Plenty of others out there with colors I like but a bit higher of a price
